    Two sinkers down the middle, and Bogey takes one and barely fouls the other off. And grounds out on the third. No wonder Valdez is unhittable. 12 consecutive scoreless innings by the Sox.

    Valdez is throwing good stuff, just like the Astros bullpen did last night.

    11 consecutive scoreless innings by the Sox against Astros pitching. But of course the loss last night was because of the home plate umpire.

    Valdez is having great success with that 95 mph sinker and 79 mph curve.

    Sale is pitching and playing tough tonight. Too bad he's got a bunch of wimps backing him up. Actually, I think Valdez so far is pitching a heckuva game, just like the Astros bullpen did last night. Good pitching >>>> good hitting. And complaints about home plate umps is just whining.

    10 straight scoreless innings by this Sox lineup, but of course that's entirely because of that home plate umpire. If we only had robo-umps, the Sox would have scored 10, 20 runs easy.

    So far I think Sale has mixed locations and pitches and pretty much stayed away from the center of the strike zone. That dinger, as other have said, was away from a lefty hitter who was still able to get it over the green monster. I've griped plenty about Sale, including before this game, but I also think he is thoroughly professional in every aspect of his pitching. So far, I'm impressed with Sale tonight. The lineup, on the other hand, looks like last night's lineup--which in fact it is.

    That could indeed prove to be the key to this ALCS. The Sox have demonstrated that can't win without good hitting--and scoring at least 6 runs.

    If so, Cora should forfeit because everyone knows that the umps are the only factor in who wins a game. Certainly not the hitters, pitchers, fielders, baserunners, etc.

    Terrific first inning by Sale. I don't care about K's even though they have been one of the measurements for his success. I do like the no walks and the use of 4 different pitches in the 1st: fastball, sinker, changeup, and slider. 9 pitches was fantastic! Meanwhile, Kike K's looking. These umps are just so unfair to the Sox. It's criminal.

    Of course it's a key. My point is that right now I'm afraid our starters, including Sale, can't win a game without massive hitting support to overcome whatever runs the bullpen will give up.
