  1. Got JDM on the slider, what else!!! It's his absolute favorite pitch to swing and miss at. Terrific job by Javier.
  2. I don't see Bogey scoring. Theycan pitch carefully to JDM knowing that Renfroe is next. Javier has pitched well in relief.
  3. Another smooth grab of a short hop by Schwarber. And a good play by Devers. Sox are not playing small ball--their two runs are off Bogey's dinger--but, whatever ball it is, is pretty darn good. Especially Pivetta (and Vazquez). With 65 pitches and that knuckle curve working, I expect Pivetta to come up for the 6th. Whitlock, Ottavino, and Taylor have been good in relief this postseason--12 innings, 1 ER among them.
  4. That freaking knuckle curve is pretty good.
  5. I griped about Vazquez's pitch-calling earlier, but have to give him credit now. Pivetta is struggling with his command, but getting guys out. Now need to get Altuve out to finish the 5th.
  6. Still a weird game, especially Pivetta going to the 5th with just 49 pitches thrown and a lousy 53% strikes. But just one freaking run scored by the Astros.
  7. Yes. The pitch was up in the zone and cried out for a fly ball.
  8. If Pivetta is lucky, so is Javier. The Sox cannot hit his 4 seamers squarely.
  9. This is one weird game. Two very good hitting teams, a bunch of so-so pitchers on both sides, 3 1/2 innings, 3 hits, 2 errors, and a 2-1 score.
  10. Pivetta is throwing 50% strikes and miraculously--that is the right word--getting away with it so far.
  11. Slider right down the middle, but no swing by Maldonado. Instead he walked on pitch 5.
  12. That's our Renfroe, free-swinging again. Last night he got two BB's, which clearly must have pissed him off, so tonight he's making sure there is no way the Astros are going to walk him again. Nosiree.
  13. Not a good call by the ump, but JDM was just stupid about it. Good thing Cora saved his ass.
  14. So far the Sox have 1 hit and 1 error in this game. And 2 runs!!!
  15. Horrible, horrible swing by JDM. Lucky he fouled off that next pitch.
  16. This reminds me of game 3 of the ALDS, which came after the Sox scored 14 runs. Last night's hot bats seem to have cooled. Astros pitchers are good, but they aren't throwing great stuff in this game.
  17. Sox are hitting grounders off of 4 seam fastballs.
  18. Agree those are good numbers. And I love just the 1 Astro run. But I also think Pivetta's been lucky. As for "chill out," does someone need to explain to you the derivation of the word "fan?" You think the gang at Fenway for the ALCS is there to "chill out?"
  19. Pivetta needs to mix his pitches and throw strikes--preferably not right down the middle--to be effective. He sort of did that against the top of the Astros order in the 3d inning--three quick outs--but he did throw some fat pitches that were just not hit solid, thank goodness.
  20. Big missed opportunity with 2 on, 1 out, and Renfroe and Devers coming to bat--in a very close game yet.
  21. It was low and inside. I agree he "squared it up," but also think he was lucky. Plus it was a 3-1 count and a walk would have loaded the bases.
