  1. He is indeed both. But the Yankees have plenty of excellent players who just didn't look all that excellent tonight.
  2. What an image/idea!!! Way back when on the MTM show, some of them were involved with an amateur theatrical which was reviewed by a newspaper critic, who panned them. Murray reassured them with "he pans everything. You remember last year when Richard Burton played Hamlet?" "He didn't like Richard Burton!!!??" "He didn't even like the play." And that's our Fred.
  3. McQueen might have been cooler, but he sure wasn't much of an actor. Brando turned into a fat slob, but he could still act. Steve McQueen made a living out of playing Steve McQueen.
  4. A fantastic, unexpected start. Agree 3/4. Next 3 starters are Bello, Crochet, and May, all of whom are pitching well. Except for Narvaez lousy throw to 2b, I thought the defense was solid. All 3 Yankees runs were earned. Yankees 3 errors led to 3 unearned runs, the margin of victory.
  5. Tonight is why we watch MLB. A shame it didn't happen at Fenway, but I'm not so sure Anthony's dinger reaches there. Bullpen is MVP--4.1 IP, 0 ERA. lineup--Anthony's huge home rune not withstanding, was 3/`19 with RISP. Anthony drove in 3 runs and Lowe 2. Duran is starting to po me, but, were I Cora, I'd leave the first five the way they are--Anthony, Bregman, Duran, Story, and Lowe. Rotten, worthless Hamilton had a single and scored 2 runs despite that miserable, stinking pick off at 3b. He a single and 2 BB's and 1 SB. Tomorrow night I would be tempted to go with the same lineup--including Yoshida as the DH.
  6. He does indeed take the first pitch--but not always. Fortunately, it's after 10 pm on a Thursday, so Cora gave him the go ahead.
  7. Terrific, Really. Marlon Brando played Antony in the movie Julius Caesar.
  8. Gotta love Anthony, Huge dinger in the 9th when really needed. But give some credit to the Yankees pitcher for not throwing the ball low and inside.
  9. Rafaela swung at the right pitch and hit it, but still suffers from round bat round ball squarely disease. And right now he has plenty of company.
  10. You are dead right about the drama, but that's what makes baseball so riveting. I would have bet money the Sox couldn't win tonight and they could still lose. But, despite the rotten hitting, they cling to that 1 run lead in the 9th freaking inning.
  11. Now another low and inside pitch that is hit weakly to 2b by Gonzalez. Apparently, few Sox hitters recognize that pitch is low and inside and not in the strike zone.
  12. FWIW, a low inside anything to Anthony gets you a swinging strike. That area is a big hole in his swing and his vision. Gonzalez batting for Hamilton, so the Yanks bring in a righty, their 5th reliever and 6th pitcher. De los Santos ERA is 2.56.
  13. Yankees' Hill totally screwed by the ump. Awful Single for Bregman to lead off 8th.
  14. I don''t think so either, but I like what Weissert and Matz have done.
  15. Here are the ones I think are truly contributing this season--Bregman, Anthony, Story, Gonzalez, Narvaez, Duran, Rafaela, Abreu, Ref--and Crochet, Chapman, Bello, Giolito, Chapman, Whitlock, Wilson (but not tonight), and Bernardino. That's 17 out of 26. I also think Wong contributes as an excellent backup catcher and despite his rotten OPS this season. His CERA is better than Narvaez's. I would love to add Dobbins and Mayer, but they didn't play enough. Latecomer May has an ERA of 2.87 in 3 starts so far. Lowe is also a latecomer who just batted in the go ahead run with a double. His 3 game Sox OPS is well over 1.000. So, if you give me May and Love to add to my list because both look awfully good so far, that's 19 total
  16. I double dare you. I'm pissed off too, but the Sox have the players this season. Well maybe Duran stinks with his atrocious RISP hitting.
  17. Hamilton did most of that. He got the balk. Then, because he stole 3b earlier. the Yankees SS was cheating toward 2b which left a big gap for Anthony, hit a very nice single for the rbi.
  18. Wilson has thrown 13 pitches, 10 of them balls. That's our bullpen, yessiree. Game ain't over, but so far it's gigantic choke job by the Sox--especially the rotten hitting--1/10 with RISP.
  19. Just a reminder. Giolito is facing a red hot Yankees team that leads MLB in dingers by 10 and are 2d in runs scored The Sox are facing an up and own pitcher who neverthless walked 5 Sox and whose team committed 3 freaking errors. The Sox are still in this because of Giolito. The error by Narvaez was made doubly painful when Hamilton failed to block the bad throw.
