Rafaela critics, please identify yourselves right now. I know who you are, but I want everyone to know--you cretins. Possible the biggest dinger of this season, given all that has gone before in this game.

I think guys are a little tired. I don't remember the last game when Story wasn't the shortstop. Bregman is also back to playing every day. Duran and Rafaela have both played a ton of games in a row. It is still awful to lose a game in which the pitching has been so great.

Oh, stop it. He didn't make any errors,passed balls, our letting a ball drop between 2 outfielders, both of whom could have caught it. He isn't one of our 2 best hitters, both of whom struck out with men on 1st and 3d and no one out (for Anthony) in the 8th. Tonight this is all on the lineup who have played like crap.

Hamilton was tagged before he got to the bag. If anything, he didn't have enough momentum.

Did you just fall off the rutabaga truck? I've been saying that for weeks. Others, not me,have pointed out that those 20 games of 10 or more runs inflated the Sox total runs scored. Tonight, unfortunately, is an egregious example of how piss-poor our lineup can be. Orioles only run is because of a passed ball. Later Story's error put the leadoff batter on in the 6th. Now the Orioles get their 2d run because both Duran and Rafaela quit on a catchable fly.

He did say that, but partly because he knows Breslow wants to play Yoshida so he can trade him without having to fork over all of Yoshida's remaining salary. Unfortunately--and I don't know who said this first--Yoshida sucks.

Abreu's recovery is going slowly. Narvaez OPS vs righties is .670 and Hamilton's is .587 vs righties plus he's a much better fielder. Cora's judgment is to mostly alternate between Wong and Narvaez behind the plate. Also in August Narvaez OPS is .562 and Wong's is .677. Agree on Yoshida. Ref's OPS vs. righties is slightly better than Yoshida's. Fantastic 6th by Bello, fighting back after the leadoff error by Story. Don't forget the Orioles only run was unearned.

Anthony K's on 3 pitches low in the zone. I predict more and more teams will pitch him that way. Low and inside is especially tough for him. Sox have batted through 5 innings and scored 1 stinking run.

All 3 Orioles batters hit the ball hard. Finally Bello throws some breaking ball for the K and 3d out.

Enns was pitching Anthony low, but with a 3-1 count threw a fast ball 6" to a foot above the bottom. Great swing by Anthony who was looking for a ball to hit. I don't think Rafaela's big problem is swinging at bad pitches. I think he's having trouble hitting a round ball with a round bat squarely. He swung at the 2d and 4th pitches, both near the center of the strike zone, and missed the first and popped the 2d up to the catcher.

No doubt he does. My case for Rafaela is a tad different because I begin with the argument that the pitching staff is making these wins possible, and that it behooves Cora to get his best defenders on the field. In the cases of Bregman, Story, Anthony, Duran and Lowe he gets both. For DH he doesn't need fielding. Tonight Cora is going with far and away his best defensive CF and 2B--plus Wong is a good defensive catcher. And Cora isn't giving up much hitting because Abreu is on the IL and both Gonzalez and Narvaez are struggling at the plate. With Abreu out until some unknown date next month, Cora must play Anthony, Duran, and Rafaela in the outfield with Ref and Yoshida as backups and maybe Garcia.

Hamilton's back and the Sox are playing great ball. I think the screwup on the fly to center was that Eaton sprinted for home when the ball was hit and then had to go back to 3b. Apparently he thought there were 2 outs. Either way, it was a screw-up. Sox have proven time and time again they are crappy bunters.
