  1. Now Story gets a BB on the 9th pitch. Bases loaded, Rodin. That said, I think this game is still very much a longshot, especially with Eaton at bat and 2 outs.
  2. When Rodon is throwing low pitches, our batters are in trouble.
  3. That's the thing about Anthony. When it's a pitch to hit, he usually makes good contact. Tough break for Story. That was also well hit.
  4. Two outstanding at bats by Gonzalez and Bregman. Rodon ain't seeing the 7th.
  5. Nobody else got him either. Maybe the Twin were asking for too much,
  6. Meh. I'm not sure I want a CBO whom other CBO's love in July, which is a very tough month for making good deals. Plus this is just his second year as CBO, so of course he's going to be cautious. On the other hand, Breslow brought in Crochet, Bregman, Chapman, and Narvaez last winter. That's the best four in one winter I ever heard of for the Sox.
  7. Bernardino looks pretty good. 2 outs in 9 pitches and out of the inning.
  8. So May makes it to the 5th inning giving up 5 which actually could have been. For most of that he was pitching batting practice.
  9. Rodon is pitching well, just like Fried did. 3 dingers and 5 runs for the Yankees. Ump screwed Judge on that at bat.
  10. Grounder by Rafaela demonstrates yet again the value of pitching low, which May is reluctant to do.
  11. That's why I'm tracking his pitches. Wed was an off day, but I think the Sox bullpen is a little tired.
  12. He gets the K on a low pitch!! Imagine that. The batter's right, but as already noted Anthony got screwed on 2 calls in his first at bat. Both below the zone.
  13. My goodness does May like the middle of the strike zone.
  14. They aren't. They've had some good pitches to swing at, but just fouled them off. Rodon has also thrown some nasty pitches for strikes. Rafaela catches that double Duran missed.
  15. Excellent at bat Easton. Yes, out, but 7 pitches. Rhoden has 54 pitches in 3 IP.
  16. We all did, but his last 2 starts were excellent. Tonight he seems to have decided to pitch batting practice--pitches primarily in the center of the zone with not much break--against the team that leads MLB in dingers.
  17. Another Yankees dinger off another very fat pitch. May apparently is incapable of pitching low in the zone.
  18. That dinger was inevitable. But I think May is getting good defensive support. Rafaela just made a running grab that I believe no other Sox second baseman would have caught. So a point for Cora for putting him there.
  19. I played one unforgettable summer of Babe Ruth League and made the all-star team--and never played baseball again. I switched to basketball, made the varsity high school team, and almost made the freshman team in college (much smaller than ND), I also played straight pool, billiards, ping-pong, hockey, soccer, hand ball, racquetball, squash, golf, tennis, flag football, volleyball, and duplicate bridge. I played basketball competitively (with refs) untiI I was 40. I competed in 3 mini-triathlons in my late 40's, I could still max the Army PT test (2 mile run, pushups, situps) when I was 52. By age 60, however, I was limited to walking and golf. Baseball, especially MLB, is for me the best sport to watch in person. I've watched games in Washington (old stadium and new) Philly, Baltimore, KC, and of course Fenway. I still watch college basketball, but not much NBA or NFL. I like watching the Olympics, Qoe Good point.
  20. That's the key to getting Anthony out--throw near the bottom of the zone or even a little below it. In this case it only took 4 straight sinkers and no changeups.
