  1. Anybody remember bullet Bob Hayes, who won the Olympic gold medal in the 100M and later was the split end for the Dallas Cowboys? I swear if he was hitting grounders to the right side, Sale would still beat him to 1b.
  2. I understand hobby horses. Truly, I do. But you should consider getting off that one. He's basically the only guy available, plus his defense is pretty darn good lately. The guy we need to see dumped is Matz. I mean, I'm glad he gave up the 3 runs, but right now he's in a groove.
  3. Heckuva point. I flat didn't notice.
  4. Wong needs a hit because he's really stunk behind the plate. Not.
  5. No changeup, no problem--so far. Love the way Sale is always way ahead on those grounders to the right side. A pro. Eduardo Rodriguez was usually late or didn't even bother to cover first. I exaggerate, of course, but not by much.
  6. I know Sale likes those K's, but I prefer short at bats (which are outs).
  7. Meh. They've all been close. Plus don't forget that rectangle is made up--it does not in fact exist because nobody on the field can see it. For example, that strike three on Turner was right on the money, but he argued it was a ball.
  8. Am I wrong, or is Fenway less than ideal for a 4 pm game with a bright sun?
  9. Fantastic drag bunt by Yoshida! Pure artistry. Makes up for those hard hit balls right to someone.
  10. Sale has shown exceptional command today. No 97 or 98 mph fastballs, but really hitting those spots. He and Matz have made the home plate ump look bad because he ain't calling all the strikes.
  11. Subjective!!!!!?????? This is a completely factual website and game thread.
  12. Sale finally threw a beauty of a changeup, and the ump called it a ball. Whoops, he just called another strike by Sale a ball.
  13. Huge hit by Refsnyder, but it's not like the Sox haven't been making good contact. Devers just hit a shot, a one-hopper right to the firstbaseman.
  14. Finally, finally, a Sox player doesn't jump 6 feet back on an inside pitch. Dugo gets an HBP. I do believe the homeplate ump is giving Sale more calls than Matz. That 3d strike on Turner was on the money.
  15. Amazing. The NESN crew ignored the play on the field to do a pointless interview. I have no problem with interviews as voice overs, but NESN insists on show us the interviewer and interviewee because they assume the last thing we want to do is watch the game, the field, the fans in the stands, whatever.
  16. I thought Devers should have gone for 2b, but he was out by a mile.
  17. All 3 Sox hitters have made good contact--but two were outs.
  18. Yankees win. Sox need a win to stay in 4th in the AL East.
  19. Dugo steady in RF for the 3d out. That was decently hit--off of another changeup by Sale. Given all the righties he will face, it would help if that changeup had more break.
  20. Hanging changeup by Sale in the middle of the zone for the double. But I like his command and mix so far in the 1st.
  21. I know they've both been good this season, but they both stunk last night. Indeed, the bullpen has been one of the Sox strengths this season. Plus you deliberately misinterpreted my point, which is that, given how lousy our rotation has been this season, we have needed the bullpen to get that winning record. If the bullpen--and I do recognize this was just one game--struggles, the Sox are in trouble. And last night wasn't just 1 or 2 runs, but 6 coughed up by the bullpen. In other words, a good start by Paxton and 6 runs scored by the offense were wasted. Where did you get the idea I wanted Winck and Jansen unavailable for the rest of the season? Also, why would you want them pitching today?
  22. $52 is a lot. I like Sale over Matz, obviously, but the Sox lefty lineup (vs righties) scores a whole lot more runs than the righty--163 runs vs. righties and 59 vs lefties. The Sox have faced lefty starters in 37 games and righty starters in 39 games.
