  1. Yeah I was surprised Velazquez didn’t enter the game.
  2. Tonight will be win #8 for Velazquez 😊
  3. There's a slight difference between acknowledging who your likely playoff opponents are, and declaring one team "the team to beat". The WEEI hosts were basically saying that Houston is on paper right now the most dangerous team in a short series (maybe assuming they get their injured back), hence they are 'the team to beat'.
  4. Ironically two in the past week though
  5. I was listening to WEEI the other day and they said that Houston is still the team to beat in the AL. I'm like, "What does a team have to do?"
  6. Except that his stuff seems really good; these weren't "luck" wins.
  7. When E-Rod and Wright come back, it will (?) bump other starters to the bullpen. If Eovaldi does move to the bullpen, he may be the lights out setup man we've been looking for. That said, I have to say Thornburg looks pretty good recently.
  8. Personally I don't believe in true 6 man rotations, but I like the concept that there is a "swing man" who pitches in the rotation only when there isn't an off-day, so that the main 5 starters always have 5 days of rest between starts.
  9. I know it's only 2 starts, but I'm really impressed with Eovaldi, so don't be too quick on that judgment.
  10. Huge bummer agreed. I assume Lin gets the start tonight, but who knows?
  11. Pardon my ignorance but what’s the big deal? I’m glad Mookie could help fill in Brock Holt style.
  12. Sadly I think we have one more year of keeping the team together. 5 years from now it will be Mookie and Sale making $40 million each and a bunch of AAA graduates.
  13. This is really fascinating. E-Rod doesn't seem to care who his catcher is. Sale & Price should have Leon and no one else. Porcello and Wright look like they can learn to use Swihart. Kelly clearly misses Vazquez; I hadn't thought to blame his struggles on Vazquez going on the DL.
  14. If we get to Severino and knock him out of the game, it will really be a morale blow to the Yankees.
  15. And if Tyler Thornburg continues to pitch very well, I will at some point have to stop crying over lost Travis Shaw.
  16. Yeah it's really more since Vazquez went on the DL. But regardless, those statistics I've seen of starter ERA with Leon vs. Vazquez are pretty damning to the latter.
  17. Well either way it's going to get really interesting when Wright and Rodriguez return. I hope Eovaldi continues to make that a tough decision.
  18. I thought he got lucky and escaped jams, but didn't look dominant.
  19. Great post. Occasionally there's a big name free agent who seems ignored by most teams, like JDM last year, and that's a situation to pounce.
  20. I thought he pitches much better as a starter than a reliever. That opinion hasn't changed.
  21. And I think that's why he's not starting. I'm sure he rather would be, but yeah when the extra inning game turned to Velazquez, I was like, "Oh yeah, we're going to win for sure" and I was right.
  22. I had made this thread earlier: https://www.talksox.com/forum/threads/18798-Sox-relief-pitching-thread. Mods, perhaps you could combine the two threads?
  23. I'm on cloud 9 today. Go Sox! Long live Steven Pearce!
  24. If Severino loses, they've lost with their ace. If Happ loses (or did he go on the DL?), our pickup beats their pickup. Not to mention Eovaldi is an ex-Yankee, so their message boards will be like, "Why can't we get guys like that?" If Tanaka loses - and Price wins - then the monkey is finally off Price's back. What great storylines!
