  1. Great article about the Sox quest for 117: https://sports.yahoo.com/117-reasons-love-2018-boston-red-sox-164316247.html
  2. An ESPN article on how much JD Martinez improved the Red Sox: http://www.espn.com/mlb/story/_/id/24380539/where-red-sox-jd-martinez
  3. It didn't escape my notice that Eovaldi fell to pieces when not throwing to Leon.
  4. I just noticed that ESPN has Mookie at 8.0 WAR today. How did it go down when the Sox didn't even play last night?
  5. Can you point me to those studies? I've thought the Sox lineup has been strange all year. I hate it when Mookie or Andy are on base with 2 outs and Moreland gets up to bat instead of JDM.
  6. Article in the Globe about exactly what we are talking about: https://www.boston.com/sports/sports-q/2018/08/14/al-mvp-mookie-betts-or-j-d-martinez
  7. I certainly wouldn't mind if they got rid of Hembree and kept Workman up for good.
  8. To be fair, he's started 43 games in the outfield so far this year. At any rate, I think the MVP usually goes to a player who you can say, "Without this guy, this team wouldn't have made the playoffs." And to me, that guy is JD Martinez. But if Mookie wins it I'm happy too.
  9. I'm happy to report that today, Mookie Betts stands at 8.1 WAR and Mike Trout at 7.8.
  10. Continuing to feel like an idiot at my earlier posts in this thread.
  11. Who is pitching for us in the night game of the doubleheader on Saturday? (I want Velazquez)
  12. E-Rod and Sale will both be back by month's end, and Johnson won't even be in the rotation. Sale - Price - Porcello - Eovaldi - Rodriguez will be late August into September rotation. Johnson has 2 or 3 starts left.
  13. Today's update! Sox: 81-35 Orioles: 35-80 The Sox remain slightly better than the Orioles are bad
  14. Yeah it was an interesting time to be a Sox fan. 2002 - I'm bewildered that team didn't even make the playoffs. Starting pitchers 1,2,4 in ERA, a top closer, I recall the offense being good. But there was this 10 game losing streak in August where it seemed like they had a lead into the 8th in every game that just killed them. 2003 - Nomar turned sour in August and was an enigma in the playoffs. Todd Walker sort of "took his place" offensively. Leaving Pedro in for the 8th with a rested Timlin & Williamson was a crime. I'm glad they fired Grady for it. 2004 - The ultimate comeback. 2005 - A great regular season with Ortiz/Ramirez heroics a plenty. Disappointing finish though.
  15. Last start sooo good, this one sooo bad. An enigma.
  16. Well it’s short-lived because E-Rod will be back soon. But I’m super excited for the next Eovaldi start!
  17. I'm really excited to see if last start's amazing performance by Porcello will be followed up or not. Maybe he and Eovaldi can have a scoreless innings competition
  18. Why aren't they playing Hector Velazquez???? Johnson could have gone six, Velazquez 2 or 3.
  19. It wouldn't bother me so much if the starts weren't at the expense of Hector Velazquez and Brian Johnson.
  20. I just looked at the Sox scheduled starters for the next 2 weeks and Johnson has one more start, then back to the pen. Pomeranz stays in. But I'm sure that when E-Rod comes back Pomeranz will go. Sale - Price - Porcello - Eovaldi - Rodriguez find me a better rotation in MLB.
  21. I've actually been following the saga of the Sox vs. the Orioles in the "Are the Sox as good as the Orioles are bad" race (i.e. flip the Orioles record). Today's standings: Sox: 80-34 Orioles: 34-79 So the Orioles are only a half-game in back of the Sox in being as bad as the Sox are good. It's been close all year!
  22. Then there are teams that had a lot of talent but went nowhere, like the 2002 and 2011 Sox teams.
  23. I hope Cora starts letting him go the distance if he has a shutout going with only ~80 pitches thrown.
