  1. My point exactly. There's no incentive to come in anywhere but first or last.
  2. Honestly seeing the Mariners dismantle their team after having a good season made me sick to watch.
  3. Oh no!
  4. Same here. And I really don't want Harper. Most overrated FA I can remember.
  5. I think Barnes will be fine. I think Brasier will be fine. Hembree is a known quantity. The questions for me are whether Velazquez, Johnson, Wright, and Workman can adjust to setup roles and pitch well with inherited runners in pressure situations.
  6. I think it's a recognition that players in their 20s - most of whom aren't free agents - are far better performers than players in their 30s - most of whom who are.
  7. Devers to first, Xander to third, and we bring back Iglesias to play short? I'm surprised he's still unsigned.
  8. The starting rotation could indeed be a juggernaut. Sale - if he can have a "complete" season, he'll win the Cy Young Price - if he can continue last year's second half into this coming season, he could win 20 games Porcello - a repeat of last year would be fine E-Rod - if he stays healthy he should be up around 18 wins Eovaldi - if he's really as good as I think he is, he should also be up in the high teens Two 20 game winners and three 18s? It's not unrealistic.
  9. I hope so. I think Harper and Machado are the two most over-rated "once in a generation" players I've ever seen, and I think their salary demands have been ridiculous from day one. Glad to see the NY Yankees showing some sense.
  10. I, for one, would consider converting Sale to a closer if he continues to be unable to pitch a full season, much as Papelbon and Eckersley before him.
  11. One of the best baseball names I've ever seen (Yasmani Grandal). Right up there with Asdrubal Cabrera and Yhency Brazoban. Someday I should write up the all-awesome name team. (I use these names for my D&D characters btw; a little cross-hobby fun.)
  12. Well partly true. I wouldn't say I apply scientific rigor to my baseball thought processes. Still, I think I saw Eovaldi turn the corner last year in his pitching prowess. I think we've caught lightning in a bottle. There were several starts he was pulled very early when he was pitching fine so don't let that skew your thoughts on him. Erod was having an awesome season when he got run over on the way to first base. Maybe you weren't paying attention? Happ and Sabathia are just a notch below these guys.
  13. I really do think both Eovaldi and Erod will have better seasons than Happ and Sabathia.
  14. Medicals? Unfortunately I don't see how they can keep Bogaerts after 2019, and yeah my hopes for Pedroia are low, especially in 2020. I'll be watching both Lowrie and Iglesias to see if they sign just 1 year deals.
  15. Johnson did perform better as a starter than as a reliever, and Cora had a 4 inning leash at that. Poyner I rather liked, I hope he gets a more prominent role. Thornburg needs to show something in spring training, as does Carson Smith. A healthy Steven Wright changes things.
  16. Moonslav's Cody Allen theory becomes more likely...
  17. They uh, put 25 players on the field on a regular basis. Using the term 'players' loosely
  18. I, for one, am not panicked in the least about the relief pitching situation. I've come to accept that free agency now entails brinkmanship that leads to deals in February and March.
  19. Nevermind the game threads, I got into the habit of turning the tv off when Kimbrel came on, and checking the score about 10 minutes later.
  20. Mine too. The Sox learned the waiting game last year with JD, and they're applying it again. There are still multiple good closers left as the previous poster outlined, so I'm not worried.
  21. Looking at 404 Not Found: /news/2019-mlb-free-agents/c-293292274, | MLB.com WWW.MLB.COM I'm surprised to see Jed Lowrie still unsigned. I thought the A's would gobble him back up for sure. I also see the player with my favorite baseball name is up for grabs - Asdrubal Cabrera. Jose Iglesias is still out there too. Maybe all the signings will come this week and next?
  22. Why do you think the Jays released Tulo? They have to pay him anyway.
  23. It's not Hembree hate. It's a matter of analyzing the roster and deciding who, if Kimbrel is signed or Velazquez stays with the big league club, is bumped.
  24. I think this team can win it all. But obviously subtracting say Hembree and adding back in Kimbrel would be a plus. Actually I'd rather have Velazquez than Thornburg, Hembree or Workman. Also add Carson Smith to the AAA back-up.
  25. Well, true, but my point is that if the non-income-producing teams get the best draft picks, they should be able to field competitive teams of players under age 30. If there's going to be revenue-sharing, it should be mandated that the smaller payroll teams use that money to retain key players who would otherwise become free agents.
