Because the alternatives are not much better. And most fans would rather see him try to earn that 13 mil, instead of sitting on the bench. -
It's up to Price and Wright. I'm not worried about the Sox getting a replacement for the #5 spot. I am somewhat worried that Price is either hurt or is having some trouble living up to his contract. If he can't improve and Wright slips, it wont matter who else they get. Personally, I think Price gets his act together and Wright pitches well all year, with a few games like Sats game thrown in, just to keep it interesting. Porcello is who he is, good for 6 innings and 2 or 3 runs per start. The Sox get bullpen help and, if we're lucky, a servicable starter by the deadline. The offense will get back to tearing the cover of the ball. Not like they did in May, but good enough to carry the team on occasion, like most good offensive teams do. Baltimore is on a tear, but it wont last. They're not running away with the division.

I thought the Sox were going to the playoffs last week and a handful of crappy games hasn't changed my mind. So, do the doom & gloomers now think Price sucks, is that it?

MLB hasn't bothered to improve replay camera angles. What makes you think they're in a big hurry to add more expense to a game? Yes, I saw that "they" tested a system in one of the independent leagues. With a guy in the press box, calling pitches over a PA system. Funny how there's no mention of how long it takes to make said call. I'm betting it wasn't mentioned because it's slow and the last thing MLB needs is more "slow".

So, your plan is to transmit pitch\Fx data to an umpire and do it in under 1.5 -2 sec? You think games are too long now? Wait untill that plan is implemented. GameDay feeds aren't much slower than realtime games because MLB thinks it's cool to delay them. It takes time to process the raw data into a graphic of the balls path. You've been watching too many Star Trek mvies. Again, MLB can't be bothered to track foul ball over a pole or a HR over a wall. They're not going to bother with any expensive data feeds to umpires.

Yup, using Pitch\Fx to "encourage" the umps to do their jobs better makes more sense than infrared googles or equipment loaded up with sensors or other wing-nut ideas.

"The studies consider the gray area, meaning the error rate determined by said studies is correct." I agree. "And feel free to continue being a jerk then." Thanks, I will. Seems to work well for the majority of posters here.

Considering that players can't stand there and argue balls and strikes, I don't see where it speeds up the game any appreciable amount. That could be done much easier by enforcing the existing rules that pitchers pitch in a timely manner. Investing ina system that assists an ump in calling balls and strikes better is probably not worth the money. They can't even be bothered to install cameras sighting down the foul lines.

I'd love it if the umps did a better job, but I think it's way down on the list of why baseball is having trouble pulling in new fans. Think the average 14 year old is waiting for the umps to boost their accuracy rates to 6-8% before they invest their time into a game?

You're the one that stated "The analysis uses pitchFX/Gameday's strike zone system which, as presented before on this very thread, gives umpires a significant leeway (about the size of the baseball) to all quadrants of the strike zone." Eveyone knows there has to be some sort of leeway, but it's not specified in Pitch\Fx Gameday. It's impossible for the human eye to tell if a pitch is in or out of a K zone by a fraction of an inch. And I don't give a flying f*** what you think of my posts.

Because you obviously skipped it the first time Kimmi posted it: "Use the hot/cold zones to find the pitch locations in which the current batter and pitcher perform their best, and where they struggle. The strike zone is divided into nine regions and balls are grouped into four regions, with each zone color-coded to indicate whether the batter or pitcher is hot or cold in that zone." I know it's not as "productive" as "posts like "it's the human element!", but I'll work on it.
