  1. I am pretty confident that the staff for the 2nd half would be different than the staff for the first half, regardless of the injury to Clay.
  2. I get that. However, with all other things staying the same, even our horrendous offense in May, improving our starters' ERA from 4.75 to 4.25 over the first half of the season would surely have us right in the thick of things.
  3. I voted no. I've stated before, I think the likely additions we'll see are a bullpen arm and a consistent, innings type middle of the rotation starter.
  4. Our starters had a first half ERA of 4.75. You keep stating that if they performed to expectations, that would be an ERA of 4.25. As badly as they have pitched, the Sox are 6.5 games out. You're telling me that shaving half a run off their ERA would not have this team right in the thick of things? The Yankees starters ERA for the first half was 4.24. Guess what place they're in?
  5. LOL Bell, I wrote that statement with you in mind. I'm teasing about golf. It's a sport I could get into if I just took the time to do. NASCAR, on the other hand....
  6. It's not over yet. The odds are against us, but stranger things have happened. I know it's "only baseball", but I understand exactly what you're saying about the 2011 season. It seems kind of silly to let a sport affect us so much, and I keep telling myself not to let it, but I can't help it.
  7. Finally, some baseball to watch tonight! The bad news is, we have to wait until 10 PM. The good news is, I don't have to work tomorrow. Let's go!!!
  8. It's Fred's fault. He screwed with mojo, and the team hasn't been the same since.
  9. And the large majority of analysts agreed with him. Seriously, they should not have been as bad as they were the first half.
  10. LOL Bowling is a good offseason sport, along with figure skating.
  11. We all have our moments as fans. I have vowed to quit baseball many times this season (and most seasons), only to be back the next day, excited for the game to start. I hope you'll be sticking around. I've enjoyed your posts.
  12. What else are we going to do? Become golf fans?
  13. They are that good. That's all they need. LOL
  14. Pitching order coming out of the break: Miley, Porcello, Rodriguez, TBA
  15. I just read that Hernandez has been promoted to Pawtucket. Honestly, I had never heard of Hernandez before. Then again, I don't follow the minor leagues that closely.
  16. Pretty much, yes.
  17. I agree that he should try to go the opposite way more often.
  18. His BABIP this season is .231, versus a career BABIP of .299. His line drive rate is 22.1%, higher than his career rate of 20.2%. His % of hard hit balls is 36.5%, down from his career of 39.8%. However, his average batted ball velocity is 92.88 mph, which ranks him 15th out of 310 batters with at least 50 at bats.
  19. Well, aside from the fact that I have never said that the whole season has come down to the bad offense in May, I have never said that the pitching is not to blame, and I have never said the were are playoff bound but for the hitting in May, yes. That's exactly what I mean.
  20. LOL SoxHop No, I didn't think that at all. I assumed that English was probably not her first language. I was trying to make a joke based off of "The woman is always right" cliche. I have a Chinese friend who explained to me that there is no "s" or plural form in her language. She is always saying things like "we have 3 dog". I hate going to the dentist for a cleaning.
  21. I haven't heard any whining on his behalf. I have heard some very sound and rational arguments in his defense.
  22. Ben has not whined about anything. He has taken full responsibilty for the position that the team is in. 2012 is on Larry for insisting on Bobby V. IMO, Ben is completely absolved of that fiasco. 2015 is not over yet, so we'll wait to see how the team finishes. It is Ben's responsibility to fix the holes that we have. If you want to blame Ben for 2014, that's fine. But also give him just as much credit for 2013.
  23. First of all, did I really type "been" instead of "Ben"? Yikes! LOL As I said, I blame the coaching staff 2nd after the players themselves. When you look at the degree of underperformance pretty much all across the team, you have to question what is going on with the coaching. And if the coaching truly is a problem, then yes, that is on Ben for hiring them.
  24. Ortiz is also the victim of one of the worst BABIPs in baseball. His other peripherals look good. We should see some 2nd half improvement from him.
  25. Happy Birthday!!! Turning 30? You're still a baby.
