  1. You correct your wife??? And you're still married??? LOL
  2. Sandoval is not a Gold Glover, but he has been above average defensively over his career. He was supposed to be a marked improvement over the defense we had at 3B last year. Sandoval currently ranks as the 4th worst defender in MLB out of 171 qualified players. Guess who ranks last? Hanley. The good news is, both of these guys have shown improvement over the last month or so.
  3. Yes, there are a lot of unexplainable things. Should been be expected to foresee all of these unexplainable things?
  4. Easy to say that they should have added him in the beginning. Would you be okay with giving up Betts for him?
  5. I can't see the FO trading either of those players. As far as getting Gray goes, it's not likely. However, Beane has been known to do some pretty off the wall things. He might have some interest in some players that the Sox do not value as highly. I'm sure the Sox are inquiring.
  6. This is what I've been saying. They are all performing at career worst levels, which really is unexplainable. I would even argue that Miley's performance is surprising, given his career numbers and his peripherals.
  7. After the players themselves, I hold the coaches the next most responsible.
  8. Let the man think positive. There's far too little of that around here.
  9. I agree. The team has 6.5 games to make up, so staying status quo will likely not get it done. I don't see two top starters coming, but even some bullpen help and an innings type starter would help.
  10. A bad team means they have no talent. This team has talent. The fact that so many of them have underperformed to the level that they have and for as long as they have is an enigma.
  11. It wasn't a rotation that was supposed to be good, but it was supposed to be solid enough to keep the potent offense in the majority of the games. Therefore, when the pitching holds the opponents to 4 or less runs, or even 5 runs, the offense was supposed to be able to bail them out a large majority of the time. In fact, the offense did just that during the months of April, June, and July, to the tune of a 29-12 record (.707). Not so much in May, when their record was 10-10 in such games. Not bad, but the way this team was built, the offense has to win those decently pitched games. A lot of people disagree with that approach to building a team. I disagree with it. But on paper, it should have worked.
  12. Yes, and the experts are mostly right here. I know the odds are long, but there is still almost half a season to go, so there's a chance. The Sox will have to pitch and hit better than they did the first half.
  13. There are many who believed that the FO never really wanted Lester back, and I can understand that thinking. However, this is one area in which I think the FO really just screwed up.
  14. Spot on back to back posts. I knew there was a reason why I liked you.
  15. As I just posted to a700, the team's play has not reflected the talent level of the team. I'm not trying to say that our pitching is elite. It's far from it. But even so, they have underperformed their mediocre talent. The offense is supposed to be top notch. They have underperformed their talent level. It's not a bad team. It's potentially a good team that has played badly.
  16. Let me first clarify. I shouldn't have said that it's a bad team. I should have said that it's a team that has overall played badly to date. It has some good offensive talent and some fair pitching talent which have both underperformed. The offense has picked things up recently, so they are currently not a problem as far as I'm concerned. Yes, despite the poor pitching to date, the team would be in first place (or very close to it) if not for the poor offense in May. How many times do I have to say that? I have also stated more than once that we need pitching. The pen is overworked and middle relief has not been strong. Buchholz is injured. We have 6.5 games to make up. All of that leads to needing more pitching. That said, if we were currently in first place and Buchholz were not injured, I think this team that has been "playing badly" could win the division over the full season, as currently constituted, if they played up to expected levels.
  17. No reason to feel stupid Thunder. You're a good poster who is very knowledgeable and passionate about baseball.
  18. I would have felt a lot better if they had gotten a pitcher too. I just think they felt that they had enough pitching to get to the point of calling up a youngster or making a trade.
  19. Yes, but only after all of the booby talk. I'm an equal opportunity poster.
  20. Difficult, but not impossible.
  21. I agree this factored into their decision. We'll see if they sign any of these guys this year.
  22. I really hope the Sox don't deal Ramirez.
  23. I agree. I don't have a lot of confidence in this team to be able to come from behind. Especially once you get past the 6th inning. I think the Sox still have a chance at the playoffs, but I don't think the chance is great enough to give up big pieces for a 2 month rental. If we can get someone who could also help us in 2016 and beyond, then that's a different story.
  24. This thread has gotten way off track. Herein lies the problem with the ASB.
  25. There are guys who have no business being topless anywhere.
