  1. Nice pick off Kelly!
  2. The return of Allen Craig. The Phillies don't stand a chance!
  3. Don't get me started on Damon!
  4. I've said before that I think he is just a big flake more than anything else. When a team is going as bad as the Sox have this season, you usually here a lot of speculation about a bad clubhouse, etc., even when it's not true. Something that normally wouldn't be given a second thought gets blown out of proportion. What have we really heard this season about a bad clubhouse? Other than the Panda cell phone thing, I can't really think of anything. That leads me to believe that Hanley's attititude has not been a problem.
  5. But having a team that is supposed to contend is different than having a team that is in full rebuild mode and really has no shot from the outset. Theo knew that things would be bad for the Cubs for a few years and he told the fans to be patient. I'm not so sure that would fly here. Even with the shake up of bringing in Dombrowski, the intent is to have this team contending next season, not to go into rebuild mode for a few years.
  6. The only three I voted for are Buchholz, Porcello, and Rodriguez. I think they are more or less shoe-ins to be in the starting rotation to start the season, provided they are healthy. I agree with CP that Dombrowskil will likely acquire two pitchers this offseason. I doubt that Kelly will be traded. If not in the rotation, he could be in the BP. I don't think Miley will be traded either. He is a valuable and good back end starter.
  7. The bullpen needs a complete makeover. I think Koji and Tazawa will both bounce back, but the BP has to be rebuilt with the very real possibility that one or both of them might not.
  8. I don't disagree with what you're saying about Rodriguez. He will almost surely be in the rotation to start the season.
  9. Toronto is living proof that Ben's plan was not a faulty plan.
  10. While I think there is a decent chance that Porcello and Kelly can pitch more like we've seen recently, depending on that to be the case would be too risky, based on the small sample. I would like Dombrowski to acquire two top pitchers, but I think the rotation would be pretty good if he at least acquired a #1 guy.
  11. Dombrowski has stated that we need an ace. He has also made known his affinity for strike out pitchers. Because of that, I think he will add two starters this offseason, a #1 and a #2. That likley means that one of Kelly or Miley will not be in the rotation to start the season.
  12. NESN apparently tried to get Orsillo to state/tweet that he was not fired but that the decision for him to leave was mutual. Nothing like trying to get the person that you just shafted to cover your PR mess.
  13. Yeah, Joe Kelly has nothing on him when it comes to names. Lonnie Chisenhall - Now there's a name.
  14. The thing is, I don't think the Boston fanbase would go for a complete rebuild, like Theo did in Chicago. Ben had to rebuild while at the same time trying to keep the team competitive. He has done that (or tried to) for the most part with shorter terms contracts @ more money per year. The guys signed in 2013 had near perfect synergy. For whatever reason, they lost it in 2014. For 2015, Ben focused on bringing in guys to address probably our biggest weakness in 2014. Good plan that didn't work. However, the bright side is that, in the meantime, the solid core of young players has developed to the point where they should be very good for years to come.
  15. LHP Adam Morgan (5-4, 4.03 ERA) vs The Stud (8-6, 4.94 ERA) Because I still care, and because game threads should be made before the game starts. Go Sox!!!
  16. His and Panda's production have been awful, but I think both of them are getting bum raps when it comes to their character. There might be something to Hanley's "laziness", but I recall a statement earlier from one of the team's coaches that Hanley has been agreeable to taking fielding practice anytime the coaches have requested it. Either way, I think the criticism of his attitude has more to do with his contract along with his lack of performance than it has to do with his actual attitude.
  17. Eduardo has not really been all that great. He might be better than some of the other pitchers that we've had, but some of those other pitchers may have turned the corner. It's not that I have anything against him. I really like him and think he will be a very good pitcher for us. That being said, he is still developing, and starting the season in AAA is not necessarily a bad idea, depending on how the rest of the rotation pans out. Personally, I think it would be a big mistake to start both Eduardo and Owens in the rotation.
  18. It's not planning for failure. It's planning to have a very good pitcher in your rotation. Even though his history suggests otherwise, there is no guarantee that he will get injured. The $13 mil is worth the risk. The key is to have the depth to back him up if/when he does get injured.
  19. LOL Late periods are no joking matter.
  20. Speaking of the Mighty Joe Kelly, since being recalled (8 games), his ERA is 3.74 and his OPS against is .791. Since August 1 (6 games), his ERA is 2.68 and his OPS against is .700. And in the last 4 games, his ERA is 1.35 and his OPS against is .616. All small samples, of course, but we can certainly hope that he has finally figured out how to work his stuff.
  21. The Sox could end up trading one or two of those guys if the price is right, but I wouldn't trade them just for the sake of getting rid of them. If there is no Buchholz or Kelly, and our rotation is #1 guy, #2 guy (provided Dombrowskin picks up 2 top pitchers), Eduardo, Porcello, Owens or Miley. That leaves very little depth. I know I keep saying it, but the more depth, the better. If Kelly continues to pitch like he has recently, Buchholz pitches like the good Buchholz, and Owens continues to develop in AAA, that is quality depth, not just quantitiy.
  22. The way I see it is, there really isn't going to be any playing time for De Aza the rest of the way out. The Sox seem to be committed to the 3 youngsters, though granted, Castillo isn't really that young. There's no point in having De Aza rot on the bench for the remainder of the season. The Sox might as well get something for him, even if the piece does not seem at all significant. I agree with you about having De Aza back next year as the 4th OF. As MVP said, he's a free agent, so the Sox can still sign him in the offseason if they choose to.
  23. What's wrong with periods? Periods are great!!! Said no female, EVER.
  24. I can't believe it's already September. Go Sox!!!
