This is true, but Bellhorn nailed it with his post. I feel as strongly about my opinions as anyone else here does, but I know that I don't have the knowledge nor the resources that the FO has. Therefore, I have always tried to give Ben and Farrell the benefit of the doubt by trying to understand their thinking and rationale when I disagree with their decisions. It doesn't mean that they're always right, but they know more about baseball, in particular, in running and managing the Red Sox, than anyone here does.

I have always been a David Wright fan. While I'm still pulling for the Royals, it would be nice to see Wright get a ring.

He is not the best defensive SS in the league. He does not deserve the award.

There might not be any standouts, but that doesn't mean that Bogaerts should get the award, just because no one stands out. As I said, it's not an outrage that he was nominated. He's close enough to the top 3 to defend a nomination. I'd be willing to bet that some of the coaches voted for him based on his bat.

Yeah, I recently heard that about Shapiro. I feel bad for Anthopolous. From what I've heard, he put his heart and soul into the team. Jays fans and media are not happy. Rogers has a PR nightmare on his hands right now.

Bogaerts definitely deserves recognition for the hard work he put in last off season and for the improvements that he has made, both offensively and defensively. My post was not meant to be a knock on him. It was a knock on the atrocity that is known as the Gold Glove Awards.

That's the second snarky remark you've made with regard to Ben being a 'gym teacher', as though he has taken a huge step down by taking a teaching position. Do you have something against gym teachers, or teachers in general?

Yes, I understand that. That's my point. They all underperformed. The offense, Hanley and Panda aside, did perform up to expectations the last couple of months, but as a whole, they underperformed by a good bit the first half. No one could have predicted Porcello, Hanley, and Panda all performing as badly as they did. It really is an enigma. One that makes me shudder when I think about it.

I have said many times that my preference in building a team would be to have strong pitching and a mediocre offense versus a strong offense and mediocre pitching. I am a strong proponent of the 'pitching and defense' mantra. Regardless of what my preference is, the philosophy of having a strong offense and pitching that should have been good enough to keep the team in most games should have worked. It may not be the choice or preference of most, but it should have worked. The Jays are living proof of this. Their pitching was mediocre until they brought in reinforcements at the deadline.

Bogaerts has made great strides defensively, and I'm glad to see that he is being recognized for his accomplishments. That said, it's the Gold Glove Awards. While they have become much improved since they added a saber component to their voting, they still come up with some doozies. As long as coaches and managers are doing the voting, this will be the case. Bogaerts winning a GG would not be a complete sham like Jeter winning, but he does not deserve to win. Hardy probably should have been the 3rd finalist instead of him, but Bogaerts being nominated is not an outrage. As I always say, I will wait for the Fielding Bible Awards to be announced.

Anthopoulos stepping down after the hiring of Shapiro is very similar to Cherington stepping down with the hiring of Dombrowski. Who wants to remain in a job where you have more or less been demoted, despite retaining your title? I don't blame AA one bit. He won't be without a job for long.

His philosophy of building a team with a strong offense and a mediocre pitching staff should have worked. When all areas of the team underperform significantly for the first half of the season, it's hard to blame the GM.

Yankees fans look down on everyone like they're second class citizens. They're Yankees fans, after all.

I'm rooting for KC too, but it's really a toss up for me. I won't be upset if the Mets win. That said, while the series is obviously not over, I can't see the Mets coming back to win this thing. The way KC is playing in the postseason reminds me of the 2013 Sox. You never get the sense that they can't come back and win a game when they're down.

I would be wary of signing Greinke. There is no place like Boston or NY when it comes to the scrutiny and pressure of the media and fans. I can't see someone with a social anxiety disorder thriving in this kind of atmosphere.

I've said before that Cherington didn't have the luxury of telling his fanbase to be "patient" while the farm develops, like Theo and Moore did. He had to keep the team competitive while rebuilding the farm. He did a great job of it in 2013. His free agent moves didn't work out the other two years, but the farm system is pretty much where he envisioned it to be. It's too bad he can't be around to see how this team plays out the next few years.

Cherington is obviously well respected by other teams and other GMs. They can look past the "3 last place finishes in 4 years" and see the overall body of work that Cherington has done, which again, includes winning a World Series while rebuilding the farm. That's no small feat.
