  1. Yes, I have the ability to see both sides of things, not only my point of view. It's a gift. Despite the rationale behind signing Pablo, the contract was bad before it happened, due to its length and the likelihood of Pablo declining towards the end of it.
  2. What is boring is your need to keep telling me how boring I am. It's like they say with the tv. If you don't like the show, change the channel.
  3. You lost me at "your powers of deductive reasoning is flawed". I have a lot of shortcomings, but my deductive reasoning ability is not one of them.
  4. That depends. Are you talking about JD or Stephen?
  5. The traditionalist in me absolutely dislikes this hat. And who knew there was a Los Angeles Dodgers thread on this forum. Wonders never cease to amaze.
  6. I'm not sure exactly what you mean by "degenerate" gambler, but gambling can be an addiction. It sounds like he was addicted to it. Breaking an addiction is much easier said than done. I wonder if he ever sought help for this addiction, if it indeed is an addiction.
  7. I've already listed some moves that are bad moves that I think are Ben moves. FTR, the only moves I considered bad moves last offseason were signing Pablo and not signing Lester. I agreed with the Hanley move and I did not think his contract was a bad one. GMs get fired for any number of reasons. By your reasoning, every GM that has ever been fired, including Dombrowski, is incompetent.
  8. Without the advantage of hindsight, Porcello was a good deal. I'm thinking he is still going to end up being a good deal when all is said and done.
  9. Of course Fangraphs cares how accurate they are. Thinking otherwise is just silly. As I've said many times, I have no doubt that major league teams look at those projections and use them as a gauge or reality check against their own projections. They know that what happens on the field might be something entirely different, but nevertheless, the projections are a very good indicator of the talent level of the team in comparison to other teams. No one is going to Vegas to bet based on the projected standings.
  10. Awesome story. That's cool about him signing the balls between innings too. Jerry is way cool!
  11. Most opinions seem to have mellowed on him recently, but clearly you have forgotten some of the things that have been posted about him during the season and earlier in the postseason. There were a lot of assaults on his character, not just on his poor play. I've said before that I don't think everyone (outside of posters on this forum) is out to get him. I believe that there is probably some truth to what has been rumored about him in the past. The point is, there is no evidence to suggest that any such rumors are true since Hanley returned to Boston. The criticism on his character has been unwarranted.
  12. I'm not sure if he should be reinstated or not either, but I disagree that 25 years is not a punishment. That's 25 years that he was not able to be part of the game in any capacity. Even if he were inducted into the HOF, his gambling and his 25 year punishment will always be a cloud over his legacy.
  13. Not true. The trade for Rodriquez is looking pretty good. Porcello was a good deal, though I know no one here will agree with me. Also, as the saying goes, sometimes the best deals are the ones that aren't made. And don't forget about the awesome farm system.
  14. Seriously, stop with the nonsense. I don't have time for nonsense.
  15. And yet, this is still more to base my opinion on than those who are bashing Ben have.
  16. As I've said many times, Hanley gets a bad rap as far as his character goes.
  17. Kennedy stated recently that ticket sales are currently down 2% from where they normally are this time of year. He also said that they have had to work harder in the PR department the past couple of years than they have had to in the past, with things like more giveaway promotions, Tessie, and Winter Weekend.
  18. I wonder if that's the same NESN executive that wanted Orsillo fired. And yes, I'm still ticked about that.
  19. There are absolutely factors that humans can incorporate into their projections that computer systems cannot. OTOH, no human can objectively process the enormous amounts of data that computers can. As with stats in general, it would be foolhardy to not take into consideration as much information as you can, both from the human perspective and from the computer systems. Saying that computer projections are useless is just as foolhardy as saying that human insight into the game doesn't matter.
  20. I'm not sure I have a good counter argument on this Sandlot. Honestly, I'm not even sure where I stand on this. I completely understand the seriousness of a player or manager betting on games. The integrity of the game is at stake. I'm wondering if gambling is an honest addiction for Rose, or if Rose just thought he was "above the law" and gambled for fun. Also, I have recently read that Rose denied and lied about gambling on Reds' games for the longest time, then only came clean when he was trying to make a quick buck with a tell all book. That doesn't sit well with me. That said, it's been 25 years and perhaps he has served his time for the crime. It's not like he is being given a free pass.
  21. I don't have any idea who they are, but I still put more faith in their opinions than I put in the posters here who have no inside knowledge, and who are basing their opinions on nothing more than their dislike of Ben. Baseball executives almost always remain anonymous when they are stating things about other teams.
  22. Where have you been all season and all offseason? I have been defending the Panda signing til I'm blue in the face. I didn't like it, but I have said many times that I understand the rationale behind it and that there is no way it should have been so bad last season. I even compared the rationale to the signing of Price. So stop with the nonsense. Theo, Ben, Hazen, Hoyer - they are all cut from the same cloth. They all have the same baseball philosophy, which is one I happen to completely agree with. To me, there are types of moves that fit that philosophy and there are those that don't. There are moves that seem like 'Ben' moves and there are those that don't. Perhaps I think that 'Ben' moves should work out because I agree with his philosophy.
  23. This does not surprise me.
