    I don't think it's a given that Castillo will be playing in games against lefties, just because he's a righty. JBJ had very good splits against lefties last year.

    I suspect that at this point the Sox are in no hurry to get Rodriguez into the rotation. For one, this does allow the Sox to somewhat manage his innings. Though he doesn't need much management of innings, it might come in handy for when the Sox are playing deep in October. For two, this allows the Sox to check out some guys who have no options remaining, for instance Edwin Escobar. For three, this allows the Sox to give Wright another look in the rotation versus putting him in the pen right away. Personally, I like Wright better as a #5 starter than I do as a reliever. However, I think that Kelly needs to be given a legitimate chance this year as a starter before the Sox decide he's better suited for a relief role (if they decide that). Rodriguez' injury kind of helps the Sox sort some things out.

    Fair enough on the domestic violence definition. I agree completely with your point about the seriousness of domestic violence. I believe that Chapman has some serious issues, and I sincerely hope that we don't hear about his gf being injured by him in the future. All that said, I also strongly believe in the principle of 'innocent until proven guilty'.

    Did Farrell actually say that Young would be platooning with JBJ? If I recall correctly, he said that Young would get every at bat against left handed pitching, which is not the same thing as saying that he will be platooning him with JBJ.

    This is the type of character assassination that I've posted about. Disliking Hanley is your prerogative. Criticizing his terrible play is fair game. The character assassination based on nothing more than your opinion is unfair and unwarranted. Your post is ridiculous. Just stop.

    Panda was a bad idea. I do not consider Porcello's contract to be a large contract. So no, Porcello was not a bad idea. David Price, from a contract standpoint, is a bad idea.

    I find it a bit disconcerting that what was originally presumed to be a 72 hour sideline for Rodriguez has turned into a not likely to be ready for Opening Day injury.

    That is really stretching the definition of domestic violence. I'm no lawyer, but I'm pretty sure that most of what you are describing is not considered domestic violence. My understanding is that the charge of domestic violence is something reserved for abuse by one person onto an intimate partner.

    That's not the impression I'm getting. IMO, most people have already made up their minds and have written him off. I think many people are hoping that he fails.

    To those in the "I don't care, it's not my money" camp, this is why it's almost never a good idea to hand out large contracts. Inevitably, these guys will keep their spots on the roster at the expense of younger and better players due to their enormous salaries.

    He has baggage from his days in Philly and Washington. There were no issues that I can recall when he was playing for the Sox.

    Papelbon was never worth the contract that he received. IMO, paying money like that for a closer (or any relief pitcher) is not money well spent.

    If it's a question of choosing between Smith and Papelbon, I'd definitely go with Smith because of his age and team-control status. That said, Papelbon is still a very good closer in his own right. There's really no place for him in our pen, but if we did not have a closer, I would have no problem having him back as our closer, contract aside. As far as the baggage goes, I don't recall Papelbon ever carrying "baggage" when he played for the Sox. He has not been happy since he went to Philly, but there really weren't any issues when he was with the Sox. Yes, he has an ego. That was a good thing though. That quality helped him to be such a good closer.

    It never ceases to amaze me when someone who has a golden opportunity like Kopech has can behave so irresponsibly. It's not only immaturity, but also arrogance.

    That's pretty much all I've been saying. Give him a chance to play some real games before jumping all over him.

    I have nothing against Papelbon either. I just don't think he was worth re-signing at the price that the Phillies gave him. I wouldn't mind having him back on the Sox if the price is right.

    We tend to forget that these guys are human beings, and that they go through their share of personal problems, just like the rest of us. It's easy to jump on players when they are slumping or when it appears that they don't care, but we have no idea what the players may be going through off the field.
