  1. Fair enough. There are two things that contribute to my concern: 1. Dombrowski did not replenish the farm in Detroit 2. Dombrowsk's contract will be up at about the time our team is out of it's 'win now' window. Will he be that concerned with the state that he leaves the team in? That said, Dombrowski does deserve a chance to improve our long term outlook. I am not happy with the way that it looks now, but I'll reserve my final judgment until that time has come.
  2. Explain to me how you make a snide remark regarding other people's inability to understand a concept, I respond in kind, but I'm the nasty one. FTR, I'm about as far from nasty as anyone can be. I'm extremely sweet and loveable.
  3. Cut out your nastiness.
  4. As much as I've been against Dombrowski selling the farm, oddly enough, I really did not have any problems with the trade for Pomeranz. Yes, we overpaid, but it was a move that needed to be done. Unlike the recent trade for Sale.
  5. I don't disagree that acquiring Sale increases our chances of making the playoffs. I have never disagreed with the short term improvement of our team. As Hugh said, would you rather be in the position of having a very good chance of making the playoffs for the next 10 years, or of having a slightly better chance of making the playoffs, but only for the next 3-4 years? I go with the former.
  6. Do you agree that building a strong franchise begins with building and maintaining a strong farm system?
  7. The playoffs are largely a crapshoot. We were already playoff contenders. Making us World Series contenders doesn't really improve our chances of winning the World Series by much. Make it to the playoffs and anything can happen. The best team does not always win.
  8. As I just posted, it's not the Sale trade, per se. It's the overall decimation of the farm that I don't like. I do agree with you about Sale taking some pressure off the bullpen and making it stronger. Having 3 starters that can pitch into the 7th on a regular basis is huge for the pen. Too much pitching is a good problem to have.
  9. The writer may have been somewhat presumptuous in some of his statements, but IMO, he hit the nail on the head, presumptions and all. Let me reiterate something he said that I have said as well. There is nothing wrong with the Sale trade in a vacuum. It's the overall direction in which Dombrowski is steering this team.
  10. My last sentence was in direct response to your first sentence in the post the I was responding to, and I quote: "This seems to be a damn difficult concept for some people to understand." Yeah, that was a tad nasty, so cut it out.
  11. I have no idea. I'm just going off of what I've read. Dombrowski seems to be very high on Swihart right now.
  12. That's possible. I wrote my post based off of what Alex Speier wrote in his article about how the trade came about.
  13. Well, trading Buchholz to get salary relief is a different story. I understand and agree with the desire to reset the luxury tax.
  14. For anyone who hasn't had the pleasure of reading this article, I've posted a link. Kory nailed it from beginning to end. CHRIS SALE IS A LUXURY THE RED SOX DIDN’T NEED
  15. No one is selling ERod. I don't disagree that there are other ways that the numbers problem could be solved, but I'm keeping as many good arms as I can.
  16. It makes a ton of sense to me too. The roster issue is partially solved by stashing ERod in AAA. Are we so sure that ERod will definitely pitch better than Buchholz, Pomeranz, or Wright? Can we base that off of spring training results? I would sure hate to trade Buchholz because of roster issues, only to have him pitch like the Good Buccholz while ERod struggles.
  17. Your best players play when you don't risk losing a potentially very good player by doing that. It's not about rewarding someone who is a better player. It's about giving the team the best chance to win over the course of a long season. To do that, you need depth and flexibility. We're not talking about benching Price over Owens. We're talking about two pitchers that could provide similar back end production. Not a difficult concept to understand.
  18. You're probably right. As they say, these things have a way of working themselves out. If putting ERod in AAA to start the season allows us not to have to trade away or DFA a pitcher that could help the team, then I have no problem with it. It might not be fair to ERod, but it would allow for greater depth and flexibility.
  19. In regard to the Sale trade, it could be that Dombrowski was willing to listen about trading Devers, but just not in conjunction with Moncada and Kopech. I think that Moncada and Kopech were already decided upon, and Hahn asked for Devers as well, to which Dombrowski said no. That's my understanding based on what I've read. So, I don't think it was a matter of Devers being 'untouchable'. I have heard that Swihart has become untouchable, though, along with JBJ. And as far as being concerned about the future state of our team, that does not detract one bit from the ability to enjoy this year's team. It's not an either or situation.
  20. I know no one agrees with me, but I'd start ERod in AAA, especially since he's pitching in the WBC. That will alleviate some of the roster crunch, and that also gives us a quality starter in AAA for when the inevitable injury or underperformance occurs.
  21. He is definitely already at least a couple of years past prime. He may hold up better than others, but his age is most absolutely a concern.
  22. It's not EE that I don't like. It's the contract that comes along with him.
  23. Well, Theo is a genius. Not quite sure what your point is.
  24. Well you know me. Drama queen extraordinaire.
  25. No, I am not. I have said many times that I don't have a problem with any of the deals that Dombrowski made, in and of themselves. Even though it was an overpay, I'm okay with the single deal that we made for Sale. In other words, I am okay with trading prospects to get Sale. It's the overall philosophy and the direction in which this team is headed that I take issue with. There's a difference. You cannot field a team with all farm players. You have to make trades and you have to sign expensive free agents. The goal is to balance the short term with the long term, not win now at any costs.
