  1. I am with you on this Fisk. At the present, I am fairly optimistic about Price returning sooner rather than later, based on the opinions of two reputable doctors who actually examined him and saw the MRI, and based on the comments from Price.
  2. My post was not meant to be a knock on ERod. I like him and I loved the trade to get him, even though I hated giving up Miller. I just hope that ERod can pitch to his potential and pitch more consistently this season. I think he has the potential to be a #2.
  3. I agree Tyler. He has the potential. He will get it together one of these days. Hopefully, it will be sooner rather than later.
  4. The WBC, where 38 year old Jason Marquis is the Game 1 starting pitcher.
  5. I've said before that I'm keeping as many arms as possible. Personally, I'd keep Abad, at least to start the season, and send one of the relievers with options to AAA.
  6. LOL Emp I did the same thing when I first started posting here.
  7. Agreed. He has been frustrating as heck, but we have to remember he's still fairly young, too young to give up on.
  8. This is what we're talking about CP. Good for Leon.
  9. I agree with you here. If I knew that I was fighting for a roster spot, there is no way I'm jeopardizing that by playing in the WBC.
  10. Here is a quote from Tim Britton on the topic of whether the Sox would have to pay Abad or not: "It should be noted that arbitration salaries are not guaranteed until Opening Day. The Red Sox could save most of the $2 million if they decided to release Abad prior to April 3 — a move the White Sox just made with infielder Brett Lawrie." I don't know whether his information is accurate or not, but it sounds about right. I read elsewhere that the Sox would owe Abad $600,000 if they released him.
  11. Aww thanks. You are certainly welcome to join the WBC party! You have a lot of your players to root for.
  12. It would be nice if one or more could take a step forward. You would think that at least one of these guys would be able to step it up. Last year, for a while it seems like no matter who we put out there in the 4 or 5 spots, they were horrible. It is also time for ERod to take a step forward and become a more consistent #3 type.
  13. DVRs are like the best thing ever.
  14. Haha. Sure! Just be aware that I have absolutely no alcoholic beverages in my house and the party ends at 10:00 sharp every week night.
  15. That counts! I don't know much about it yet, but I do believe that the data that can be collected with Statcast is going to do for defensive metrics what Pitchf/x did for pitching and catching metrics.
  16. Dombrowski has already passed that time, IMO.
  17. The WBC starts tomorrow. I have my DVR set up to record all the games. Many of them are airing either during sleeping or working hours. There are a lot of games and there is no way I'll be able to watch them all, but I'm looking forward to it. Who's in with me?????
  18. Finally got to watch a game. Velazquez was 'meh', although I think he was a good pick up for the team. Barnes and Abad looked good. I think our pen is going to be a plus for the team. It's early, but so far I'm pleased with what I'm reading and seeing about Pablo. He made a couple of nice defensive plays yesterday.
  19. He would know better. Speaking of 'wins', I was just reading about the newest version of WAR that's in the works. It uses Statcast data and should be much more relevant and understandable (as far as how the number is calculated) to the average fan, and hopefully to the anti WAR crowd as well. I, for one, am excited.
  20. Davenport is a stat geek, one of the founders of Baseball Prospectus, I believe. He has developed his own projection system, not unlike PECOTA and your very own WAPM. He is usually fairly in line with the others.
  21. I agree with you. I have looked at his numbers and I can't make sense of how he has the entire AL East within 4 games of each other, with each team being close to .500. I know they are just projections and don't mean much as far as what happens on the field, but the projections usually are a good indication of how a team looks on paper. His projections seem to be way off. FTR, I am going with 95 wins for our boys, assuming they stay relatively healthy.
  22. I am not concerned about it either. At least not yet. There is always a possibility that Price will not progress in his rehab like we all hope he does, but at this point, I'm going to take the statements from the doctors and from Price on their words.
  23. The diagnosis is 'a mild flexor strain and some bone spurs'. I don't know what that means, but they have said several times that it's in the muscle, not the ligament. Price has also said that both doctors said that the diagnosis was much better than they expected it would be. As far as the diagnosis being a smokescreen, these are two of the leading doctors on elbow injuries, Dr. Andrews and Dr. ElAttrache, giving the diagnosis. Do you think they would put their reputations on the line so that the Sox can gauge the pitching market without looking desperate?
  24. I did not like the contract only because I don't like long term contracts in general. When it's a contract to a pitcher it's even worse, and when it's a contract to a pitcher over 30, it's that much more worse. However, as I said in a previous post, if you're going to give out such a contract, Price is the guy to give it to. I think he will be fine.
