LOL I don't know if there was any intent behind Machado's slide other than breaking up the DP, but it was a late slide, which is a no no. The Red Sox needed to send a message. If nothing else, to get Machado to think twice before sliding late like that again. I am still upset with Pedroia for not having his team's back when all of this was done to cover his back.

I agree with this. Maybe I'm just being naive, but I don't think there's a pitcher in MLB who would intentionally try to hit someone in the head. I would hope they all have more common sense and decency than that. I read somewhere that Barnes was 'uncomfortable' with throwing at Machado. I also read that the FB he threw was much slower than the ones he usually throws. I'm guessing that altering his delivery to not throw as hard would mess up your release point.

I agree 100% that Barnes should not have thrown near Machado's head. Right now, Pedroia's reaction is not sitting well with me. However, we don't have the whole story. We don't know exactly what was said. I am sure that if his teammates feel like they were in any way thrown under the bus, Pedroia will atone for it. As Bellhorn said, I just hope this doesn't become a huge controversy for the team.

I agree. I'm a huge Pedey fan, but he was wrong in this instance. The team was covering his back. He should have responded in kind. And under no circumstances should anyone be throwing at anyone else's head.

Do we know that Marco will be a better defender at 3B? We'll have to disagree. I just can't support making decisions based off of such a small sample.

There is evidence that batters are pitched to differently. There is no evidence that the batter's overall production is affected by it.
