Fair enough point that doubles and home runs will score more runs than singles, but OBP still correlates with scoring runs better than SLG does. The point being, you have to get on base first, which our team is doing at a good clip.

Actually, you called me a dumbazz yesterday, but at times, I can't really argue with that. I hear you though. We all get a little crazy when it comes to our Sox.

I really like Vazquez. But honestly, I don't think we could go wrong with either one of them defensively. It will come down to who is hitting better, which at the moment, is Vaz.

I think you're right that Vaz catches two, ERod and Pom, and Leon catches the other three. But Vaz did catch Wright yesterday.

Doesn't Vazquez always catch ERod? For this game, I think Vaz catching again has more to do with ERod having a personal caddie than it has to do with Vazquez 'displacing' Leon. But we'll see.

I thought for sure that when the O's pitcher made that stupid throw to try to get the runner at 2nd, that that was game. The Os get to live another inning.

Unrealistic expectations in what sense? Anyone who thought the Sox would dominate and run away with the division might have had unrealistic expectations. Thinking that this team is a playoff team is not an unrealistic expectation by any means. The point about many players being young is valid. We need Pablo!

I understand your concerns Oldtimer. What we have seen so far offensively does not instill a lot of confidence in us. At this point in the season, I am not concerned. The team is getting on base, and that usually translates into runs. The Playoff Party Bus will be ready to go in October.

There used to be a poster on another site who swore up and down that the Yankees were imparting subliminal messaging to both their own players and to the opponents players. I used to think he was nuts, but now I'm not so sure. It certainly makes sense. LOL

I agree that they have been a disappointment so far this year. Or frustrating is probably a better word. I refuse to panic over or even be concerned about what our team or any other team is doing on April 30th.

I have posted many times that I don't expect our offense to be as good as last year's offense, but I still think they will be one of the top 3 in the AL. They are getting runners on base at a pretty decent clip, so it really is a bit of a puzzle as to why they haven't scored more runs. No, I don't think they will lead the league this year after the slow start, but it wouldn't surprise me if they lead the league in runs scored from this point out. Also, the improved is directly connected to the 'allowable' drop in offense. It's okay if we don't score as many runs as we did last year, because we shouldn't allow as many runs as we did last year. While I don't count either the Yankees or the Orioles out, IMO, they are both playing over their heads right now.

Before I take the time to respond to some of the other posts more specifically, you guys need to RELAX! It's been one month. Good teams have months in which they scuffle all the time. Last year, the team was 10-16 in the month of June. In 2013, the team was 15-15 in May. In 2008 when we won 95 games, the team was 11-13 in July. In 2007, the team was 13-14 in June. The fact that it's the first month of the season makes the 'scuffling' seem a little more dire than it is, but all things considered, things are not that bad. If we win today, we'll finish the month at 13-11. If we lose, we finish at an even .500.

I disagree about Dombrowski being accountable for players who get injured. As I've said many times in my defense of Ben, the GM's job is to assemble a team who, on paper, is a contending team. I realize that what a team looks like on paper does not always transfer to the actual games, but the GM cannot control what happens on the field. In terms of the team assembled for this year, Dombrowski did a great job. That said, if there was something in the medical reports or the FO was not diligent in screening the health of these players before they were acquired, then we're talking a whole different story. Pomeranz' health questions remain to be answered. In terms of Smith and Thornburg, I think it's just bad luck.
