  1. He has had issues in the past. Has he had any, other than what's been speculated by fans, since he's returned to Boston? Is it possible that he has matured since his earlier escapades? People said the same thing about Pablo's attitude last year. Those accusations seem to have been proven false. Just because a player is playing poorly or is dealing with continual injuries (or weight problems) does not mean he has a bad attitude.
  2. I still believe the talent is already on the team, which means I still believe that the hitting will be there. As of now, however, I'm very frustrated. It's 2014 all over again. A good hitting 3B will help, but as I've said in other threads, the 'fix' has to start with the guys we have doing a better job.
  3. I'm not down on Ramirez as many people seem to be. I am not buying the idea that he is not working as hard or that he does not care now that Papi is gone. Hanley is dealing with injuries, which may make it unrealistic for him to perform any better. I don't know, but I don't think it's his 'attitude'. He gets a bum rap for that whenever he is not playing well.
  4. Yeah, I forgot about Peralta. I agree that it makes sense to give him a look.
  5. I felt like Dombrowski was a little rash in some of his moves last season. You know it has to be tempting to call Devers up. I'm glad that he is being more patient this season.
  6. In terms of the WAR values being calculated differently, it doesn't mean that they are wrong, bad, or useless. They are both credible, and as always, the more you look at the better off you are. Understanding a little about how each is calculated, and I'm not saying that you don't, helps understand where the differences might be. It's no different than looking at two scout rankings. One scout might rank a prospect at #3, while another scout ranks him at #7. Does that make both scouts wrong? Does that mean that neither scout is credible? Most importantly, does that mean that the information provided by the scouts is useless?
  7. From Baseball Reference: Xander's dWAR for this year is -.2 and from 2014 it's -.9. Marrero's dWAR this year is +.3.
  8. Counting on Sandoval with no decent backup plan was a huge mistake, I agree. I had no issues with trading Shaw, however. The deal looks very bad right now, but Shaw was horrible for most of the season last year. In Dombrowski's defense in counting on Pablo, 1. I don't think it was unrealistic to think that Pablo could improve upon the numbers put up by last year's 3B, which were last in baseball. That's how bad Shaw was last year. 2. I don't think anyone could expect both Holt and Marco to be out for most of the season.
  9. Good posts on the topic Dojji. I agree.
  10. High on Lifers unite!
  11. Trust me, I am not one to call anyone out over a two game sample. It's not just a couple of games though. It's been an on and off thing the whole season, with really only one 10 game stretch or so when the offense was performing like they should be. Compare last year's numbers to this year's numbers. The team is underperforming.
  12. It's not all about the stats Bell.
  13. If the situation were dire, I think they'd give Devers a try. But because we are tied for first, and none of the other teams in our division seem to be capable of running away with it, there is no need for a rash move. For now, the Sox can afford to let things play out a little longer while they explore the trade market.
  14. I read that it was on his throwing hand.
  15. I am guessing that Dombrowski is feeling out the trade market and will continue to do so until the deadline, unless we start to really fall behind in the standings. As many have said, despite all of our issues, we are tied for 1st place, so it's not time to panic. The team appears not to want to rush Devers, but if we can't trade for a solid 3B, I bet Devers gets the call around the deadline.
  16. I posted something similar about Betts getting a free pass when he has not been getting it done offensively either. He has been part of our offensive problem.
  17. Unfortunately, for a pitcher, a split fingernail can be debilitating. Let's hope it doesn't linger.
  18. And this is why we can't have robot umps.
  19. I may be the only person in the history of the planet who has not smoked pot. I can't imagine getting baked upon waking. LOL
  20. I'm not sure where you are getting your numbers? According to Fangraphs, when Bogaerts played 3B in 2014, his DRS was -7 and his UZR/150 was -29.4. His dWAR that year was -4.8, though that included his play at shortstop as well. Marrero's DRS this year is +1, his UZR/150 is +22.4, and his dWAR is 4.0. As far as catering to Bogaerts' happiness, my personal opinion is that a player should do whatever is best for the team, and if that means moving to a different position, then the player should do so willingly. However, we've tried moving Bogaerts to 3B before and it did not go well. In this case, I don't think moving him to 3B would be best for the team.
  21. I don't disagree with any of this. My point is that signing a big bat will not help our offense much if the guys who are supposed to hit do not start hitting. I have no doubt that 3B will be upgraded offensively by the deadline.
  22. Ding Ding Ding Ding Ding! We have a winner!
  23. How do you figure Xander to be better defensively at 3B than Marrero is? Moving Xander to 3B and Lin to SS makes 3B stronger offensively but weaker defensively and SS stronger defensively but weaker offensively. Throw in the real possibility that Xander will not be happy moving to 3B and that his production will suffer because of it, and I think the move will be a 0 net gain at best.
  24. I realize that. My point was that Xander at 3B would not be a defensive improvement over Marrero at 3B.
