  1. But it has been quantified, to the tune of nearly 60 runs over 4 years.
  2. As I said before, you should post more often. You obviously know what you're talking about!
  3. No, there have been other similar incidents. He comes across to me as being a punk.
  4. WAR, unfortunately does not capture what Varitek was the best at, his game calling. Interestingly enough, Varitek was a poor pitch framer. Even with that, he was worth nearly 60 runs above average defensively from 2008 to 2011.
  5. Blasphemy. Dude was underrated, if anything.
  6. I hate to break it to you, but I'm the only normal person on this forum.
  7. Maybe. Other GMs seem to think highly of some of them.
  8. I was hopeful, but I'm not surprised.
  9. Truer words were never spoken. I very much dislike Machado and do not want him on my team, but that said, I'm sure I'd feel much differently if he were actually signed by the Sox.
  10. I would tend to agree with this. He should not be Plan A. That said, I would prefer taking our chances with him than grossly overpaying another player.
  11. Do I know for sure what he is willing to do with his money? No. But I do think I have a bit of a clue as to what he's willing to do based on what he's done so far.
  12. Ha! It's been days since I've mentioned the cliff! And don't think I haven't noticed your comments about clutch players.
  13. I'm not hung up about the surgery comment, I was just trying to make the point that we should not take Dombrowski's comments at face value.
  14. Our offense will improve by our current players performing up to expectations. Add a #2/3 pitcher to insure against the Price injury, make some tweaks to the bullpen, and we are good to go.
  15. I would be okay with giving Travis a shot, but I think there has to be a viable Plan B in place.
  16. I'm pretty sure that most people don't share my enthusiasm about this line up. I'm good with that.
  17. Most of us really don't care if Henry wants to spend all of his money signing expensive free agent after expensive free. The problem is, we know that he's not going to do that. He does have a budget, contrary to what some believe. Since he is not going to spend without limit, a strong farm is important, and how he spends his money is also important. If overpaying with a long contract for someone like Martinez is going to prohibit us from making future moves that are needed, then I care.
  18. I'm going to guess Martinez.
  19. Thank you.
  20. Believe it or not, this pretty much goes for all GMs when it comes to this type of thing, even my beloved Theo. Just because he hasn't mentioned that the Sox would consider moving Devers to 1B if they signed a 3B doesn't mean that it hasn't been considered or that it won't happen.
  21. Vazquez' pitch framing is better than 'just ok'.
  22. And what is Dombrowski doing? Why hasn't he signed any of them? Does he know that we need to build our farm?
  23. Some of us refer to it as being old school. It will be interesting to see what this new trend in younger managers brings.
