  1. I really think it's going to come down to an options thing. I think Brentz deserves a chance, but being without options, he is likely on the short list to be DFA'd.
  2. I'm not in as big a hurry to get rid of Holt as many people here are. I'd like to see what he can do if he is fully healed from his concussion.
  3. How so? I don't see how signing Nunez has any affect on whether we sign JD or not. Nunez is more of a depth signing than anything.
  4. Who's buzzing now?!!!
  5. Ha. There are already writers/bloggers criticizing this move.
  6. I have always been on board with Betts hitting leadoff.
  7. I did see them. They were atrocious.
  8. I did not approve Pedroia's "It's not me, it's them" comment either. I wish he would have kept his mouth shut as well. Then again, there were a couple of times that I wish Papi would have kept his mouth shut too, and he is supposedly a great team leader. Bogaerts said in his press conference today that the leaders on the team are Pedroia, Porcello, and Price, in that order. Maybe fans and the media are making more out of the incident, and the Price incident, than we should be.
  9. Sounds good to me.
  10. Momentum is good. Until it suddenly disappears. I hope he gets signed. I would be happy to have him back.
  11. The Sox did have all the buzz in 2011, OTOH.
  12. Curling might not get all the buzz, but it is a most interesting and intriguing sport.
  13. I can't stand Gardner. That is all.
  14. Not necessarily. It could be a salary dump for the other team, which we could afford if we don't sign JD.
  15. Well, it does take two to tango. Dombrowski has made a reasonable, and currently the best offer (as far as we can tell) to JD. What is Dombrowski to do if JD doesn't accept? If we don't sign JD, we might just be better off waiting until midseason to see what our greatest area of weakness is. It might not be a big bat, but rather starting pitching.
  16. And Notin's favorite, Esteban Quiroz!
  17. LOL As I posted before, he is desperate to prove that he's not desperate.
  18. I still think JD ends up signing with us. It just makes too much sense for it not to happen.
  19. Boras doesn't owe Dombrowski anything, but I would think that if he wants the best offer for his client (and subsequently the most money for himself), he would give Dombrowski an opportunity to beat another offer. That doesn't mean that Dombrowski necessarily will beat it. But if Arizona's offers $100/5, which is reported what the Red Sox offer is, my guess is that JD would choose to return to Arizona. In that case, I could see Dombrowski increasing his offer to $110. I'd be okay with that.
  20. One of the reasons why I am happy to have Mitch back. Good signing, IMO.
  21. I will be pulling for Price and Pedroia alike. I personally think that they are both leaders. They both made mistakes, which all leaders do, but that doesn't mean that they aren't good leaders. I agree with you about Sale being a great leader. He, too, had a lapse in judgment with the uniform thing.
  22. Sounds about right. Absolutely no way should JD get a 6th year, and this was my feeling at the beginning of the off season, when we didn't know the market would be so tough. As I've said before, one side of me says offer him $10 mil more if that would get him to sign now, while at the same time saving some face. The other side of me says Dombrowski has no reason to outbid himself. If neither side is going to budge, it's time to go to Plan B. Whatever that is.
  23. Yes, I believe he was in that case. He was not being a leader when he cut up the unis, however.
  24. I really hope that Boras gives Dombrowski the courtesy of allowing him to top any offer before JD signs elsewhere.
  25. I don't think the offer to JD is a lowball offer, considering no other team has offered more. However, if the current offer is indeed $100 mil, which is a lot lower than anyone expected JD to be signed for, it doesn't feel like Dombrowski is that intent on signing JD. I completely understand and agree with the idea of not bidding against yourself, but this just seems to go so against Dombrowski's MO with free agents. I am surprised he hasn't increased the offer a little to get his man.
