  1. That's exactly my feeling. The "Hidden Gems", who can be acquired for relatively cheap, are out there. Dombrowski and his crew need to find them.
  2. Rob Bradford 3m Observation: Chris Sale clearly working quicker with Leon than he had with Vazquez If I'm Cora, I'm going to let Sale continue to pitch to Leon. They seem to have a comfort level that Sale and Vaz just don't have yet. Great win! Great series!
  3. There does seem to be a larger gap than normal between the good teams and the bad teams.
  4. Luckiest team ever.
  5. I don't expect everyone on the team to play at or above their levels of expectation. But we have a good team. A very good team. If we can get some relatively good fortune in terms of health and performance, we're every bit as good as the Yankees. The way I look at it is this. The Yankees have gone on an absolute tear while we have scuffled at .500 ball, and they still haven't been able to catch us in record or in run differential. Ha!
  6. I agree that he is probably gone after this season, but that's not a given. A lot can happen between now and then. Jackie's offense is an enigma, how he can look so good at times and look equally as bad at other times.
  7. The Sox can afford to sign and keep whoever they want to. The problem is, however, they are not going to do that. It should be clear by now that while these owners are not cheapskates, but they are also not reckless in terms of payroll. We have a pretty good sense that they will spend right around the luxury tax limit and will not spend so much as to incur the heavy penalties.
  8. Mitch Moreland and Rick Porcello type deals - that's what I'm all about. And I'm not just saying that because both players are doing well right now. I have been on board with those two contracts since the beginning, and will continue to be on board with them if the players start to drop off.
  9. I'd hate to lose Mookie as much as anyone would, but even for him, I would not go crazy on a long term deal. He is one that I would break the bank for, meaning 6-7 years, but I would not sign him for more than 7. And even that would hurt.
  10. Ultimately, the decision on who plays should be based on what gives us the best alignment for the team as a whole, offensively and defensively. If Moreland's offense is enough of an upgrade over JBJ's offense to offset the downgrade in OF defense, then by all means, Moreland should be playing over JBJ. Not that I would be happy about it. The OF defense of JD in left and Beni in center has not yet cost us a game through an 'obvious' flub, so people are okay with that alignment. The thing about defense is that the runs saved from great defenders often come in a lot more subtle form.
  11. I am wondering if Cora should start pairing up Leon with Sale again. Not to take anything away from Vaz, but sometimes pitchers just work better with certain catchers for one reason or another.
  12. Seriously, you need to stop with the catcher bashing. You went on and on in the game thread about how Vaz was causing ERod to pitch badly. What about how great the pen pitched for the remainder of the game? Even without the stats, Vaz is touted around the league as a great defensive catcher. If you want to bash his offense, then have at it. But defensively, just stop.
  13. How many of these types of contracts actually end up working out though? You might get lucky, but more often than not, the contract will end up biting the team.
  14. True enough. Either way, I still want both in my lineup even if neither is hitting very well. The rest of the line up is good enough that they can carry these two guys. Besides, both of them will hit better than they are currently hitting.
  15. I think this will be a fun pitching match up to watch. Hopefully, Sale is back to being vintage Sale. WIN!
  16. That game was way too nerve wracking for my liking. LOL
  17. I am not taking anything away from Mookie because he is one of the best base runners in the game. But here is a case where Mookie's aggressiveness paid off, so that was an awesome base running play. What if he would have been thrown out? I have no doubt that posters here (not you) would be screaming about what a stupid base running play that was. The point being, too often plays are judged as either good or bad based on whether they worked or didn't work, which should not be the case.
  18. Yup. Big time shut down.
  19. I don't even know if I'd give them the edge in the BP. If we stay healthy and perform to reasonable expectations, we're every bit as good as them. And just wait until CC and his 4.21 SIERA and .211 BABIP comes back to earth.
  20. Here's the thing. You may have some players who have not hit their stride and will hit better. Even if that's the case, you will not play better as a team than your current streak, or even maintain close to your current streak. So while Sanchez and Stanton might heat up, the Yankees as a whole will cool off. I promise you that.
  21. You would think, at least hope, that by now, GMs have wised up to the idea of signing older pitchers to long term contracts.
  22. There's only a 2 game sample this season before the start, but there's no change in FB velocity. 92.4 before and 92.5 after. His FB velocity out of the pen at the end of last year was 94.7, but that was out of the pen. What's interesting is that before the tingling, again in only a 2 game sample, Price threw his FB 44.9% of the time. He was throwing more cutters, curves, and changes. Since the tingling, his FB usage has increased to 53.2%. Might that be a result of the injury? Might that be why he has not been as effective?
  23. ^^ This. And I feel exactly the same way about having Vaz and Leon behind the plate.
  24. I haven't been a fan as long as many of you, but I know enough that I never count the Yankees out. I am not trying to say that we will win the division. I'm just saying that we are too good of a team for us to be worried that the Yankees are right on our heels. I don't think anyone expected the Sox to run away with the division, and I hope that no one expects the Yankees to run away with it either. It will be a good race to the finish. Don't count our beloved Red Sox out. As MVP likes to say, Back to Back to Back.
  25. LOL I had actually typed something along those lines as part of that post, but then I erased it. I wouldn't like the $9 mil per year, but if we could re-sign him for such a short contract, I'm in.
