    It might be a different story if JBJ hadn't been making solid contact, but all of his peripheral stats say that he is due for some substantial positive regression.

    I am anxious to see how Price pitches against the Yankees this weekend. My money is on Price pitching a good game.

    And the same holds true for a baseball season. If the division race is still as tight in September as it is now, Cora may 'sprint' to the finish line, and rightfully so.

    I know that you and Slash are skeptical, but I'm feeling pretty good about Price's pitching in September and October.

    Some stats from Mazz: "So far, through 17 starts, Sale has thrown 138 fewer pitches and totaled 11.2 fewer innings than he did a year ago. Given that Sale is precisely halfway through his season, that translates into a commendable savings of roughly 276 pitches and 23.1 innings, essentially the equivalent of three starts." Mazz also points out that Sale started to fade in August last year, so he may need even more rest in the 2nd half of the season. I'm not sure if that will be possible, however, given the tight division race with the Yankees.

    I'm not positive, but I think the only way the Sox get salary and luxury tax relief is if Pedroia retires voluntarily, meaning he is willing to give up the remainder of his contract. If he is medically forced to retire, his contract is still guaranteed.

    It depends on how long the deal is. As much as I love Mookie, I am not going crazy on a long term deal for him.

    I do think that there were other routes that Dombrowski could have gone that would have us in better shape for the longer term.

    Price probably was the best bet to give a long term deal to as far as aging pitchers go. It still doesn't make it the right thing to do. I would like to clarify for the record, though, that unlike some others, I am very happy to have Price on the team, despite the ugly contract.

    I am with you 100% on this one Slash. I said it at the time that Price was signed that it makes no sense to be OK with giving Price a 7 year, $217 mil deal but not being OK with giving Clay a $13 mil deal. No sense whatsoever.

    So, you think that Clay was not worth taking a chance on for a mere $13 million?

    My bad. Potential rewards. The potential rewards that we might have gotten from Clay are most definitely worth taking a chance on at $13 million for one year. And I would have gladly taken a chance on Clay this year on a minor league contract.

    Price is 3X the pitcher so we're going to pay him 16 times as much??? Sorry, but 7 years for a pitcher in his 30s is crazy, no matter how good the pitcher is.

    That may be the case, but you also have to look at the effect that using your bullpen in such a manner has over the course of the season. So maybe it didn't hurt the Sox in these two games or the next two games. What about in August or September? Again, a manager cannot go all out to win games in June at the possible expense of costing the team more games in the long run. It's cliche', but the season is a marathon and it has to be managed as such.

    From what I read this morning, Pom will throw a sim game today, and he will need a couple of rehab starts before he will be able to return to the rotation. It will be at least the until the All Star break before he is ready to return. Johnson gets the start on Thursday and the Sox will piece together Wright's rotation spot based on how Johnson and others do.

    It really does seem like Price has been given the luxury of 'peace of mind' since his carpal tunnel diagnosis. Since then, he has pitched great. I am anxious to see how he pitches against the Yankees this weekend. I have a feeling that he will continue to pitch great.

    He threw off the mound Friday but was still considered to be a ways off from returning.

    I agree that our rotation depth is not deep enough to consider trading ERod, unless it was an offer we just couldn't turn down. And now with Wright's injury, even more so. Also, I'm still expecting Pedroia to come back and contribute. In the meantime, I'd like to see Holt get more playing time at 2B over Nunez.
