  1. I think it was Lucchino that drove Theo out the door, and Henry let him walk. Tito and Theo were the best.
  2. Fans of most other teams would kill to be in our shoes.
  3. Well, a lot remains to be seen between now and the end of the season. Wright might become completely ineffective, while Price goes on a tear which includes shutting down the Yankees. At this point, I do think that sending Price to the bullpen is an overreaction, but I can understand the sentiment.
  4. Yes, Dombrowski finished the plan. Cherington would have finished it as well, had he been given the opportunity to do so. I can almost guarantee you that Cherington would have traded some of his prospects in 2016, and that the Sox would have been in the playoffs with whatever moves Cherington made. The team was already set. I'm not arguing any results. I have said time and time again, that Dombrowski has set the team up well for the short term.
  5. I think a large part of the reason that Theo left was because of Lucchino, which resulted in Theo not having the autonomy that he wanted. Perhaps Theo would have left anyway, but I think Henry was ready to part with him and Tito after the 2011 collapse. As I said, Henry 'let' him walk. Cherington had a 5 year plan. The 5 year plan came to fruition in 2016 because of the work that he did, not because Dombrowski came in and 'saved the day'. Cherington should have been given the opportunity to see his plan through.
  6. Fair points. If we're assuming that the Sox can line up their rotation the way we want, then we have to assume the other teams can as well. So, we'd likely be facing an ace in the wild card game.
  7. It also treats an infield single the same as a triple or a HR. Not to mention many 'hits' are at the discretion of the team's official scorer. I use BA all the time, as I do ERA, RBIs, and other traditional stats. They have their value.
  8. I can see that argument for a tie breaker game, since the team will go on either way. I would still start Sale against the Yankees. I think our other starters are good enough to beat whoever we had to beat in the Wild Card game if it came to that.
  9. I'm just wondering why Jacko didn't start a thread about it.
  10. He let Theo walk. That's a problem.
  11. Outside of about 4 teams, the competition seems so much weaker this year.
  12. All signs pointed towards our hitting being much improved this year. That said, you obviously have a much clearer picture in July than what you have in January.
  13. Stranger things have happened. We should have been "in it" in 2014.
  14. My only criticism of Henry is that I think he tends to overreact when things go badly. Letting Theo and Tito go, then later letting Cherington go, were all hasty decisions. I don't know how anyone can seriously criticize Henry in terms of thinking he doesn't want to win every year or in terms of not spending enough money.
  15. As I posted before, it's a fine line. As I also posted before, I do 100% believe in the concept of choking, and have no doubt that there are choking moments.
  16. Completely agree. If we could set our rotation the way we wanted, Sale would get the start against the Yankees.
  17. I would start Price against the Yankees.
  18. That's fair enough if you're not interested in a player's worth. However, I don't think WAR is misguided. It serves a very good purpose, though it might not be what you care about.
  19. I will have to respectfully disagree. Not only does it correlate well with runs scored, it also gives one a very good idea of who the good hitters are, despite its flaws.
  20. Why not? WAR is adjusted for those things, very similar to the way many stats are park adjusted.
  21. It's not a matter of whether we needed the prospects on our team or not, nor is it a matter of how well the prospects are doing after the fact. It's about getting proper value in return.
  22. The prospects, but also the salary on top of that. Double whammy.
  23. For whatever reason, he got away from his changeup in his last start. He threw it more last night, which IMO, was the difference maker. It was great to see him pitch so well and so efficiently. Great to see Kelly with a good outing as well. Great series all around!
  24. No mention of Torres to the DL?
