  1. Thank you. Let's have a little faith in Dombrowski. Despite my criticism of him, he knows what he is doing. When all is said and done with the bullpen, I am likely to be less happy with it than most of the posters here.
  2. Nah, I don't want to spend, period.
  3. That won't happen. If we lose the division or in the playoffs, it will be because of other reasons.
  4. The problem with 'win now' mode is that it might further steepen the upcoming cliff. The team is really good as it is. Dombrowski should be able to find us a great closer at a reasonable price. It may even be Kimbrel if his market keeps dropping.
  5. Dombrowski does have a harsh reality facing him, unless Henry decides to throw all caution to the wind and exceed the luxury tax year after year. I get why he would try to trade JBJ, but then he creates another hole. Next year might make more sense to explore these trades.
  6. The pen is absolutely an important part of a championship team. But let's be honest here. Relievers are also the most easily replaceable players on the team. If I have to 'skimp' somewhere, I'm skimping on the bullpen. And just to be clear once again, skimping does not mean the pen has to stink.
  7. Once again, cheaping out to me does not mean mediocrity. It's Dombrowski's job to find us a great closer that will not handcuff us financially.
  8. I get that this is not a charity, but I disagree that players aren't all about the money. IMO, most of them are. I have no complaints about the teams that the Red Sox have put together since Henry took over ownership. If he pockets a little more money over handing out a ludicrous contract, I'm good with that. If he were pocketing a lot of money and putting crappy teams on the field, that would be a different story.
  9. Yeah, me too. Cheaper tickets for the fans. Most people cannot afford to take a family of four to the ballpark to take in a game. It's a shame.
  10. I stand by my opinion that the Sox offense would have improved dramatically even without the addition of JD. I stand by my opinion that we don't need a big name closer this year. That is not the same as saying that we don't need great relief pitchers and a strong bullpen. I just don't think you have to pay a fortune to get there.
  11. Agreed. I expect JBJ to not have one of his major slides this season and to have a more consistent year. On the topic of JBJ, I just read that just last month, Dombrowski was pushing a trade for him harder than for any other veteran player, but that he couldn't find a return package to his liking. I'm a little disappointed in hearing that.
  12. I am good with bringing back Kimbrel at the right price, but I'm also just as good going with a lesser known commodity.
  13. I would not sign Kimbrel for $60 mil. Get down to 3yrs/$15 mil, then we can talk. Even that, IMO, is too high, but I don't think there's any way we can get Kimbrel for 2 years or for less money. Britton got a 3 year deal with an opt out after the 2nd year. That might work.
  14. Hmm, I wonder what your scouting report for these two would sound like if the Yankees had signed them. Don't worry about the Red Sox. We'll be fine.
  15. Granted, but even the beat writers who have access to their 'unnamed sources' don't really now what's going on.
  16. We will add a pen piece. And look for Devers to take a step forward.
  17. Trading Bogaerts makes some sense, but as an attached fan, I really hope the Sox don't trade him.
  18. In other words, nobody really knows squat.
  19. Ha. Almost. I had believed Dombrowski would get us 2 'name guys', but with all the dumpster diving, I'm now thinking he'll only get one.
  20. I have said many times that I hate the offseason. All the rumors, speculation, conflicting reports, and anticipation are frustrating, even though I know to take it all with a grain of salt. When it comes to this, I was better off back in the day before all of this instant information.
  21. I read this morning that the Sox have signed another pitcher, Josh Smith, (along with catcher Oscar Hernandez) to minor league deals. It's interesting that last year, I don't think we had any of these depth pitching signings, much to the dismay of some of us here. This year, we've already had several. Maybe Dombrowski really is going with the 'throw stuff against the wall' strategy this year. Nah. I still expect a Dombrowski to get us someone along the lines of Kimbrel.
  22. Agree. As I just posted, what's an extra $30 mil when you already have hundreds of millions? I think it's an ego thing.
  23. I love it when a player leaves money on the table to play for a team that they really love. I understand the reasons you've stated for why this doesn't happen more often. I'm guessing the players union also really frowns upon players taking discounts. I always wonder, however, what can you do with $250 mil that you can't do with $220 mil? IMO, the player's ego plays a big part in going after the most money.
  24. Could be. But I'm also reading that the Red Sox are the current favorites for getting Kimbrel.
