  1. That stinks. I hope he's okay.
  2. True, but there is also the thing about a pitcher doing worse the 3rd time through the order, after the batter has had a chance to see the pitcher a couple of times.
  3. I can understand why Dombrowski doesn't want to give up on Swihart. But it's a little ironic that Cora seems unwilling to give Swihart the playing time. So Dombrowski really likes him, but Cora, not so much?
  4. I like having Devers batting 3rd. I just hope he doesn't feel too much pressure batting higher in the order. I'm sure Cora has a handle on it though.
  5. I agree Oldtimer. I personally don't see the need for a lot of line up tweaking from one game to the next.
  6. It is a tough order, but this is the 2019 Red Sox we're talking about!
  7. LOL This was much funnier to me than it had any right to be.
  8. I really think this is a big part of why Pedroia is starting the season on the IL, to get an extra pitcher on the roster. It is rare to play 11 games in a row without an off day to open the season.
  9. I believe that Devers is now our #3 hitter, JD 4th, and Bogaerts 5th until Cora decides that this line up is not working.
  10. Your interest/concern is not falling on deaf ears, but being a stat geek, I looked up his numbers. Leading off the game: .286/.351/.504/.855 Overall: .346/.438/.640/1.078 In comparison to his overall numbers, he doesn't perform as well in his first at bat of the game.
  11. A man who has a systematic way of putting mustard on hot dogs. I think I love you.
  12. Theo admitted that he 'panicked' with deal and vowed never to make a similar mistake. I can only see Leon coming back (if he's even traded) if there is a long term injury to Vaz or Swihart. Otherwise, Vaz will handle the majority of the catching.
  13. I was not happy about Price's deal, but it helped bring us a WS Championship. That makes it worth it in my book.
  14. As long term deals go, this is not that unreasonable. It's along the lines of JD's contract. You're right. I wish it were only for 3 years, but I'm OK with it. Regardless of the deal, I am happy that Sale will be with us beyond this year.
  15. To be fair, we all drone on about the same topics day after day. It's what we do here.
  16. While I would rather not see our beloved former players play for the Yankees, I actually do not begrudge any of them for doing so, except for Damon and Boggs.
  17. I think you're right. I don't think that GMs or owners want to dictate what their managers are to do as far as managing the team day in and day out. At the same time, I think most managers these days are on board with analytics.
  18. Jason Mastrodonato‏Verified account @JMastrodonato 12m12 minutes ago “No disrespect to any other catcher that I’ve thrown to, but Sandy Leon is the best catcher I’ve ever thrown to,” -- Rick Porcello Trading Sandy Leon is the kind of move that can fly by without much notice now, but come back to bite the Red Sox very quickly. I am in agreement with this tweet.
  19. UGH on Mejia. Cora said today that there were still 3 bullpen spots up for grabs. Mejia and Hernandez could take 2 of them.
  20. Yes, he does. Which is what I'm saying. Analytics aren't ruining baseball because the average fan doesn't know enough about them to care.
  21. Ferdy is a genius.
  22. Yeah, except this only happens on baseball forums, where you have die hard fans, not average fans.
  23. In my experience with talking to 'average' fans, they don't know a lot about analytics. They're not turned off by it because they're not all that aware of it.
  24. A team of all replacement level players will have 47.7 wins, to be exact.
  25. Red Sox Stats‏ @redsoxstats 18 2nd spot in the batting order has reached the tipping point. As recent as 2013 the league had a 99 wRC+ from the 2nd spot, awaiting it this season is... Betts, Bregman, Judge, Trout, Chapman, Donaldson, Bryant, Votto, Arenado, Yelich, Harper (soon), etc. Long live the stat geeks!
