  1. I understand. I don't have my head in the sand. I know it won't be easy. The Red Sox will need a lot of things to break the right way for them. That said, I have seen larger leads blown or gained during just the month of September. There is no way I'm going to concede the division with half the season left to play. I know that most people on here would not count the Yankees out if the roles were reversed, so I don't know why they would count the Red Sox out now.
  2. On his in game decisions? No. I am among those that question whether he had the team ready to play at the start of the season or not, though. I think time will tell whether it was the right play or not.
  3. Max continuing with the solid posts.
  4. But just think about how good this team will be when they hit their stride. Mookie and JD will hit better than they are hitting now. When they do, look out!
  5. My understanding is that he is waiting for the injured players to return, especially Wright and Eovaldi. It's hard to know exactly what the needs are when some of them may or may not be resolved by having players return healthy.
  6. The Yankees don't scare me.
  7. Wright will probably be helpful. That said, I'm not happy about his return.
  8. The 2019 Boston Red Sox will be in the playoffs. Book it.
  9. Unfortunately, I do not disagree with this. I have been criticizing Dombrowski for depleting our farm since he started. That said, the only improvements that we need are one or two relievers for depth and reinforcement. Dombrowski should be able to do that with his remaining budget.
  10. It's not only that they are getting overworked, it's also that Cora cannot use them the way that he wants to due to underperformance/injury. IMO, much of our bullpen woes are because the starting pitchers have not done what they are supposed to do.
  11. Hmm....
  12. Yes, that game was clearly on the pen.
  13. It's rather perplexing that the Sox have such a poor home record. The last 2 losses to the Jays are disheartening, for sure. That said, this type of thing happens in the crazy game of baseball. The Sox will be fine.
  14. IMO, the state of the team's W-L record does not fall on Dombrowski. He did his job in assembling a competitive team. He cannot control what happens on the field.
  15. In the words of some singer, "Don't give up on us baby, we can still come through."
  16. Don't give up on the division yet. That said, once the playoffs begin, it's all hands on deck. It could be that Eovaldi or Sale work out of the pen in some games like they did last year. Also, who knows what kinds of moves Dombrowski might make before the deadline, or how our relievers will be performing at that time? I remember that people were very concerned about our pen last postseason as well. It worked out okay.
  17. I don't buy the idea that they miscalulated and made a mistake. It might be complicated to us, but people in the FO know exactly where they stand in terms of payroll. No mistake was made.
  18. I have always been of the opinion that you can build a very good bullpen for relatively little money. There is a reason why WAR values are so low for relief pitchers. The difference between major league relief pitchers and replacement level is not that large, making relief pitchers easy to replace.
  19. According to you, we weren't better than the Yanks last year, until we were.
  20. A big crock of you know what.
  21. I am under the same impression. There seems to have been far too many games when the top 3 go quietly in order in the first inning.
  22. Seven words for you. Back to back to back to back.
  23. ^This.
  24. Fair point about 'strength' being a subjective term. The pen has been called upon to pitch more than expected. All things considered, the pen has been very good and is far from being a weakness. I agree that we need a pen reinforcement or two, but I think just about every contending team finds itself in the same situation midseason.
  25. I do not disagree with this post. Looking at W-L records of the starters without considering other factors is a pretty weak way to assess what has happened on the field. But I also think that looking at save % without considering other factors is also a pretty weak way to assess what has happened on the field.
