  1. Absolutely. Having cost-controlled players gives the team so much more flexibility.
  2. As an O's announcer, Gary Thorne is the absolute worst. Well maybe Hawk Harrelson was worse, but even that is not a given.
  3. You have every right to question it. It was a curious move. That said, just because something did or did not work does not mean that it was the wrong or the right move.
  4. And yet, the Yankees rotation has a W-L record of 28-18 (.609) and an ERA of 3.99, while the Red Sox starters have a W-L record of 22-26 (.458) and an ERA of 4.48. There's your 7 game difference right there.
  5. I may be wrong, but I'm not sure that anyone predicted that our pen would be a strength, but rather that it would not be a weakness, that it would be fine. I don't think it's necessarily been a strength, but I think it's been a lot better than you give it credit for. Personally, I think the 'self fulfilling prophecy', which I like to refer to as confirmation bias, is working more the other way. Some people were so sure that our pen would be our weakness that every bad outing by the pen sticks out sorely, and despite the problems that we've had with our starting rotation and our offense, they are blaming the current state of the Sox on the pen. Now, it's quite possible that from this point forward, our pen will be our weakness. The rotation and the offense, which were supposed to be great strengths, seem to be performing a little more consistently. But to date, the pen is still reason #3 behind the rotation and the offense for why the Sox are 6 1/2 games behind the Yankees.
  6. Also, stat geeks are the best. Go Speier!
  7. What??? Remy and Eck together are good, but I still would prefer Don and Jerry.
  8. It was a curious decision to remove Price so early in the game. That said, this is Cora's MO - saving and resting players. He did it all year last year, and he will continue to do it this year. He will not 'chase wins', as he calls it. When you get to September, it becomes a different story. When you're in June, you can't risk losing a top starter down the stretch to try to win one game now.
  9. This, unfortunately, is true. The Twins just roll over when they play you guys.
  10. He never stops working hard even when he's going great. You know that it's frustrating him more than it's frustrating any of us.
  11. That's always a possibility, and it's something that we as fans often forget, that these guys are human. Or it might just be a slump, which all hitters, no matter how good, go through.
  12. True. It will be interesting to see where/how Dombrowski finds another solid starter for significantly less than what Porcello would make.
  13. Undo the trade? Well not now that we have another WS Championship under our belt, but it's a trade that I would not have done. Dombrowski paid way too much for a relief pitcher, not only in prospects, but in $ as well.
  14. Cora mentioned a couple of games ago that he noticed a change in the clubhouse. He said that last year's team is back.
  15. Max, you are on a roll.
  16. It still ticks me off that the Sox got rid of Orsillo. Don and Jerry = the best.
  17. As some posted in the game thread, he has looked really bad the past week or so. Very un-JD like. He'll figure it out soon though, no doubt in my mind.
  18. It depends on what else the team does, but the QO would just be replacing Porcello's current salary.
  19. You are correct that most of the other announcing teams can't compare to the Red Sox team. Every team needs nerd service.
  20. I was thinking the same thing about ERod's inability to go deep into this game, on a night when the BP so desperately needed the rest. ERod managed to get through 7, and Cora was even going to bring him out for the 8th until the long top half of the inning. Good job ERod. As frustrating as he can be, he got it done.
  21. I had the 'privilege' of listening to the Twins announcers this series. They spent a couple of innings talking about rubbing up the baseball. Give me the nerd any day of the week.
  22. Ha ha. I kept saying that most of the game last night. The hitters were chasing pitches way out of the zone and helping Gibson out big time. I kept thinking, Don't swing!
  23. Amen, brother Notin. Great post.
  24. There was a blown save last night, and it's easy to blame this loss on the pen. IMO, that is really rather unfair, but go right ahead.
  25. Another solid post Max.
