  1. The ability to find these little guys - that's what impresses me with a GM.
  2. Did someone say "cliff"?
  3. I'm a huge fan of the little guys.
  4. I think we are all looking for a reason or an explanation or a scapegoat of why things are going so poorly this year, relative to last year. I don't think we can pinpoint it down to one or even two things. It's a combination of several factors, the least of which is not the fluky nature of baseball.
  5. I've said it before, and I'll say it again. We have become what we always hated about the Yankees - a whiny and entitled fan base. Fans of almost any other franchise would love to be in our shoes. The John Henry era is a great time to be a Red Sox fan.
  6. Walk toward the light Moon, walk toward the light.
  7. I counted the Sox out after Game 3 of the 2004 ALCS. In my heart and head, there was no way they were coming back from that. I was just hoping to win at least one game and avoid the sweep. Miracles do happen. Never give up hope.
  8. Once again, the Yankees haven't won anything yet.
  9. The team was built on the strength of the starting pitching, not the bullpen. If the starters were pitching like they did last season, the pen would be a non issue.
  10. I am not familiar with Levangie's background, but if that's the case, I agree with you. IMO, Farrell would be great as a pitching coach.
  11. It's an enigma. Starting pitching was supposed to be a strength. They have failed miserably.
  12. He didn't really stand still though, did he? He just didn't make moves to the degree that some other teams did, but with a 108 win team, there's not much upgrade to be done. There's also the saying that "if it ain't broke, don't fix it." The GM's job is to put together a team, on paper, that is a legitimate contender. Dombrowski did that. What happens on the field is out of his control.
  13. Ben should have never been fired (I know he technically was not), and I say that with complete sincerity. But again, I do not blame Dombrowski for this season, other than not picking up another reliever before the deadline.
  14. If anyone needs to be fired, it would be the pitching coach. Practically the entire staff is under performing in terms of runs allowed, efficiency of pitches, or both. I'm not saying he should be fired, but he would be the practical scapegoat if the team is looking for one.
  15. Dombrowski is not to be blamed for the state of the team this year.
  16. !!!
  17. Somewhere, George is rolling over in his grave. Personally, I agree with the way that the younger Steinbrenners and, subsequently, Cashman now do business.
  18. The talent is there. Maybe not to the extent that is was when these guys were in their primes, but it's there. With as bad the staff has been pitching, there comes a time when Lavangie has to be questioned. These guys are too good to be pitching as poorly as they have been.
  19. Let me correct my statement to what I meant to say. The rest of the team should be good to go. I agree that the way the rotation has been pitching for much of the season is not going to get it done. But the talent and the ability are there. If they pitch like they should be pitching, look out. If they continue to pitch inconsistently or poorly, then adding another starting pitcher or a shut down closer wouldn't help much anyway.
  20. I am glad that Dombrowski didn't go all out to add another piece, which IMO, isn't really needed. I'm a little surprised that he didn't add some bullpen depth, but who knows what other teams were asking. Dombrowski is correct in saying that the team that we have should be good enough. It's up to the guys to decide how they're going to respond to Dombrowski's idleness.
  21. I am 100% with you Slasher. Always. Except when it comes to robot umps.
  22. I'm sure they are trying their best. I think with stronger accountability, we could find human umps that have a better correct call rate. They will never be perfect, which is okay by me.
  23. I should have read this before I made my previous post. I completely agree.
  24. I am strongly against the idea of breaking up our OF or creating any type of hole on our 25 man roster to fill another hole. Especially if it's for a bullpen piece. Dombrowski should pick up a solid middle reliever (or two if he can swing it) and call it a day. The rest of the team is good to go.
  25. I was a manager Cash fan, at first. Probably because I thought pretty much anyone was an improvement over Maddon. However, as time goes on, I'm beginning to think that Cash is Maddon 2.0. Quit micromanaging and let the players play. As far as Stat-Masterson goes, he's the best.
