  1. Ha. I had this exact thought after yesterday's game. Great minds.
  2. 2019 Save %: AL 65.06 NL 64.26 MLB 64.66 2018 Save %: AL 66.43 NL 65.66 MLB 66.05 Save percentages are down a little bit this year, though I don't know if that's significant or not. Teams' win percentages when leading after the 7th, 8th, or 9th innings have stayed remarkably the same throughout history, regardless of the different eras in baseball.
  3. Jacko has been here the last couple of years, and much longer. He does tend to post more, and get rather carried away, when his team is doing well and the Sox are not. And yes, he does troll at times and he does get obnoxious. Personally, being that this is a Red Sox forum, I think he should stay out of the game threads with his 'piling on', but it's a public forum. All that said, Jacko will take his lumps when things are not going the Yankees' way. He will be very critical of his team at times and very complimentary of the Sox at times. Overall, he's a good and knowledgeable poster. Bottom line: He's a Yankees fan. They are just not as cool as Red Sox fans are. Not even close.
  4. Dombrowski and Cora say a lot of things one day, then go back on what they say the next week. Chavis not playing 2B is one of them.
  5. No doubt. I am not the least bit calm during a game. I suspect that I am not the most pleasant person to watch a game with.
  6. It stinks to not be able to complete the sweep, but if you told me before the series that we would win 2 out of 3, I'd take it. Good series.
  7. I like Jacko, but I don't believe there is such a thing as a Yankees fan who is not obnoxious.
  8. No Tyler. Just no.
  9. Has Cora officially said that he is our closer? Is he ready to pitch in back to back games? Is he ready to pitch in high leverage situations after only one rehab game?
  10. Even if this weren't the case, I often feel like starting on the road in the playoffs works out better. Win one game out of the first two, and the advantage swings to the road team.
  11. Our pen does need to do better, for sure. I can see Dombrowski adding one BP arm before the deadline. Along with Eovaldi, Hernandez, and maybe some other internal options, hopefully that will do the trick.
  12. Pablo Sandoval with another walk off last night. If only we had players like that. Thanks Dave! Seriously though, one hot streak is all we need. That hot streak is coming.
  13. It is kind of pointless to argue analytics with you and and a couple of other posters because you just ignore the arguments presented and continue to post what you believe is true.
  14. Yes, because of what I just posted above. It's the way the teams were built.
  15. The Yankees pen is supposed to be their strength. Their team was designed to have a pen that could shorten their games to 5 innings because they have a mediocre rotation. With the Red Sox, the opposite was supposed to be true. The starters were supposed to be able to pitch 6+ innings on most starts so that they could carry the pen, not the other way around. When Cora, or any manager, can manage the pen the way he wants, rather than out of necessity, the pen becomes much more effective.
  16. I just read that the Sox have the 4th best save % in the month of July.
  17. If Cora had brought Eovaldi in to close, and Eovaldi blew the save, we would be reading all the posts about WTF was Cora thinking bringing Eovaldi in to close after his poor performance the night before.
  18. I do not disagree that Porcello and the 5th spot have been the biggest problems in our rotation. However, they are not the only problems. Sale, Price, and ERod do not get free passes just because Porcello is doing worse. Our pen needs help. Regardless of the whether we get pen help or not, we will not play sustained winning ball without improvement from the rotation.
  19. Our starting pitchers, on paper, should be as good as any rotation out there. They haven't performed up to expectations yet, but if they can get it together, the Sox can make a strong run at another WS. Last year, there were also a LOT of concerns about our pen being able to compete in the playoffs. We need to remember that Cora will manage the pen differently in the playoffs than he does in the regular season, including having or starters pitch in relief.
  20. Way too much drama in the 9th inning. But had Chavis done a better job getting the ball to Bogaerts for the DB, it might have been a very different inning. Sale still needs to be more efficient with his pitch count, but props to him for grinding through that 6th inning. We'll take the W.
  21. I think I was/am on board with every move that Dombrowski made from 2018 to present. My main beef with him is the depletion of our farm system. I do not blame Dombrowski for the state of our team this year. He can't control what happens on the field.
  22. We are calm. The game threaders, not so much.
  23. I am certainly not judging Eovaldi by last night's appearance. I actually think he will be very good in the pen. As a move to get him back sooner, it makes sense. As I posted elsewhere, Eovaldi in the pen is better than no Eovaldi. However, Eovaldi in the rotation is better than Eovaldi in the pen.
  24. I have never said that a bullpen is not important. Never. I have said that you don't need to spend big on a bullpen to get a very good one. When the starters have thrown 50 fewer innings than they did last year at the same point, that's a problem.
