  1. I've said it before and I'll say it again, stat geeks, and geeks in general, are my favorite people in the world. They are awesome. Have any of you ever read the comments posted in a Fangraphs article? Excellent stuff.
  2. One of my favorite baseball moments is still seeing Mookie waving his cheat card and smiling after he was positioned way off the right field line, and darned if the ball wasn't hit right to him.
  3. As you know, I love analytics. That said, I am not a fan of the shift. I know they work, but I don't like them. Two infielders on each side of 2B.
  4. It depends on the job and where it is. I would probably not leave a job that I am happy and comfortable with, while uprooting my family, for more money, especially if I were already going to make more money than I'd ever need. With these baseball players, it's an ego thing.
  5. 2 out of 3 ain't bad.
  6. That's what I'm talking about. We still have all the pieces in place to be a serious contender next year. For that reason, I can't see Henry blowing it up, even a little bit. To be, the 2020 offseason seems more realistic for the reset and the impending cliff.
  7. I don't think that you can greatly improve your chances in the playoffs. In any short series, there is too much randomness for that to happen. Truth of the matter is that there is not that big of a difference between the best and the worst playoff team in terms of % likelihood of winning it all. Going overboard might greatly improve your chances of making it to the postseason. IMO, going overboard is not worth it when you already have a playoff contending team.
  8. Yeah, I'm thinking Shaughnessy is using a bit of hyperbole here.
  9. I am hopeful that he will take an incentive based type deal for one year, in the hopes of improving his value for next offseason. The fact that he wants to stay should work in our favor.
  10. All of our WS Championships have been fun, but nothing will ever top 2004.
  11. I'm pulling against your team, of course, but I hope you have a good time at the game. This has been a very stress free postseason for me.
  12. I have no problem with Houston winning it all either. I would like to see Ryan Zimmerman win a ring.
  13. And rightly so! To be honest, I wasn't even aware that I was voting for a 3 day old post. LOL
  14. You are right that I probably wouldn't be pleased with the cost, but that is a different matter than being pleased with having Porcello on the team. It is rare that I'm pleased with the cost of acquiring players these days.
  15. Thanks Larry!
  16. If people can vote for their own post as Post of the Day, I can certainly vote for a 3 day old post.
  17. Yes, and I am on record as not being happy with Mookie going for the most money. Same thing as with Harper.
  18. I am not a Harper fan either.
  19. Book it with my prediction that the Yankees are going down.
  20. You said that with much fewer words than I.
  21. If you're a playoff contender, then you're a legitimate ring contender. We might not be the odds on favorite to win the WS, but if we make the playoffs, we have just about as good a shot as any other team. As the saying goes, get to the dance, then anything can happen.
  22. I don't really disagree. I think there's a very good chance that Jackie will not be back next year, though the speculation is that he'll be tendered, then traded. The chances of Porcello being re-signed are very slim. I'm just saying I would be pleased if they both return next year.
  23. I have never really had any feelings for the Nats one way or the other, but after watching them in the playoffs so far, I would really like to see them win it all. Especially now that they don't have Harper.
