  1. I am 100% positive that Mookie jumped on that deal with great relief.
  2. My understanding is that the latest offer was over $300M. Regardless, the Sox were not dumb in going any higher than they did.
  3. So the Dodgers are still paying Mookie $365 million in total, including having to pay him after he retires, when they'll get zero production from him. I get the benefit of lowering his AAV, but I have always preferred a higher AAV if it can snag a player for fewer years.
  4. By the same token, the Sox will add ERod and some production from Sale.
  5. Henry is not going to authorize a ridiculous amount of spending. At the same time, you underestimate what can be done without having to spend a ridiculous amount of money.
  6. Explain this to me please. How is Mookie getting less money? Do you mean per year? How does the deferred money work?
  7. I am guessing that he earns every cent of the contract on the whole as well based off of his likely performance during the first half of the contract. The issue becomes the second half. Any contract that includes 12 years is not a great contract, IMO. The other thing that I've been questioning about this contract is how much the Dodgers outbid themselves by. I have said many times that I am shocked that the Dodgers would offer such a huge contract during the pandemic and all its uncertainty.
  8. Is that the same tale as that of Deivi Garcia?
  9. At least!
  10. You said that much better than I did.
  11. Last year was our reset. This year is a pandemic-uncertain year which has most teams skeptical of spending big money. I don't see the lack of spending as any indication of loss of interest on Henry's part. Additionally, the Sox are not anywhere near finished for this offseason. By all accounts, the Sox are one of the most, if not the most, active team this offseason. They are looking into pretty much every possible move, both through free agency and through trades, both short term moves and long term moves. Bloom didn't rule out a big move either, though I don't see that happening. Patience people. Being thorough takes time.
  12. LOL What makes you so sure the Sox will be eliminated from anything?
  13. If I'm not mistaken, the Dodgers have maintained a top farm system (top 3?) for about a decade now while making it to the playoffs 8 years in a row. It can be done, especially when you have the financial resources like the Dodgers and the Sox have.
  14. I saw your post about this the other day. The lower AAV certainly makes things better for the Dodgers, but you're not going to convince me that this is a great contract.
  15. Yes, sarcasm, to take a shot at those whose opinions about what we should be doing this offseason don't gel with his.
  16. Sounds about right.
  17. While these players may not technically be considered part of the farm system, they are part of what I am talking about when I talk about building the farm. It's not just players that are drafted and developed within the system. I realize that the Sox are not likely to get into the habit of trading away their players while they still have value, but because of their payroll, they don't have to. That said, when the players reach free agency, if they become too expensive, I'd just as soon let them walk and hopefully pick up a draft pick. Theo was excellent at doing that.
  18. Theo is the GOAT. Friedman has become a close second, though I'm not a fan of the Mookie contract one bit.
  19. My bad. From what I've read, 23 of them were prospects. Either way, the point stands.
  20. Also, the offseason is far from over. I still don't expect a huge contract signing, but Bloom is not finished yet.
  21. Henry has been one of the biggest spenders since he bought this team, even in the so called drastic change of the last two years. That is proof enough. Big spending teams have to reset payroll now and then to avoid the huge tax penalties. That's just a fact of life. Currently, the uncertainty surrounding the upcoming season is keeping most teams from investing in huge contracts. Henry will continue to be one of the top spending owners. I have no doubt in my mind.
  22. You crack me up. You are on a roll though!
  23. The Sox will be contenders in 2021, flux season or not.
