Unless those taxes go to making a safety net so people don't lose homes in hard times and it funded free healthcare and schooling. That would be too sensible, though.

Tough to answer, but I imagine restocking the farm a little and bringing back a good reliever would certainly not be out of the question. Maybe. I just can't believe a guy of his talent will go that cheap and for only 7 years. I completely understand that people are worried about his attitude on times and let's be honest he seems a right prick, but his team mates always seem to like him and even if you did get fed up of his ways, with that contract, you could probably easily move him after a few years if he continues to be such a force offensively and defensively. I'd far prefer Manny for $25m over Bogey for what? $20m? Although Bogey would maybe get lesser years.

If Machado is available at 7 years for $25 a year, I'd grab him and trade Bogaerts in a heartbeat. Although I'm positive the price for Machado is going to get much higher.

Trade him I say. And Sale. I'm fed up their greatness anyway. It would have merit as a discussion the season before his final year if he's showing zero sign of staying. For what it's worth, I don't think he re-signs with us. I'm not sure why; it's just a nagging feeling.

Absolutely this. He was superb for us for almost all of the contract and helped us to 3 Division titles and then had just enough to help us to the WS. IT worked out very well for us and now is the perfect time to walk away and say thank you.

Spot on. We only see the tax limitations. The owners are more worried about bigger financial lines. If they are profitable and wining, they don't care if we go over the tax threshold.

£11m per year for Harvey? That seems high. Bringing back Pom for £6m for one year could work. See which of the last two years is the real him.

He's definitely not going anywhere, but I would LOVE it if he opted out. We got the best out of his contract and then we wouldn't have to pay for the declining years. But like I say, he's not going anywhere.

Even as a huge Swilhart fan, one thing I will say (and this is quite possibly down to a lack of time) but he doesn't seem to have much gravitas about him when he's catching. I never feel like he is in control of things out there, or willing to put a fire out with one of his pitchers. It's like he's simply playing the position rather than owning it, if that makes sense.

Donaldson might be a nice pick up for someone this year if his market has deflated over health concerns.

You're right. He would have been a total flop if it wasn't for his great trades, his great drafting and use of the International players and winning a World Series. If only he hadn't come here and left a foundation for the most dominant team in Red Sox history and ANOTHER World Series.

Yes. The point being that one of the reasons moon used against Pearce was that he only had a certain amount of impact with his bat was the same reason he thought JBJ was worthy. Regardless of pitching. To be honest, I don't care that much. It could have been one of a few guys who won it. I'm glad Pearce won it and felt he deserved it as every time he hit a homer or his bases clearing double felt a huge moment in our wins. Every hit. But Price was superb. Evoaldi was heroic. They all deserved it. I'm kinda glad Pearce got it because of his journey too. Plus Price and Evoaldi have been showered - rightly - with praise, so they've not lost out.
