  1. I'm glad I won't be around to see the board reaction to that stretch. Poor Henry the 105th.
  2. I've no idea, I'd kinda given up on the idea. But he seems to be hanging around for it.
  3. Actually, I wondered if Bailey might be speculating about it. #Bailception.
  4. Absolutely. This is why I rarely get involved with discussions around which GM is the best/who is good/who is bad. The conversation is always far too shallow. Ben, Dave, Chaim, all have their flaws and all have their strengths and it takes years and years (and even then mostly incomplete) to get a good idea of their legacies and effects on their clubs. And they're always, AWLAYS intertwined with each other.
  5. I wouldn't say I'm elated, long way to go before judging properly yet (drafting, trade deadlines, see how his trades/moves play out in the long term, development, etc), but early signs are encouraging. His moves are mostly paying off and the pitching set up he has brought in is quite something. I do wonder if Bailey fancies himself a a manager and he's the one who takes over from Cora next year, with pitching continuing to be the focus. Crazy to think we're 14 and 3 in games we don't make an error. This team has some real potential. I'm personally glad we didn't sign Monty (now). Let these kids (and pitching coaches) shine.
  6. Thanks for those Hugh. That helps ease the growing fear of never seeing a competent Red Sox defence ever again.
  7. You could put the greatest pitching line up in the history of the sport out there, we'd still lose regularly with this defence. What are the defensive metrics like for Anthony and Mayer? Please tell me the future is at least brighter?
  8. Maybe I'm overvaluing O'Neils defence but I'd be a bit worried about Duran's adventures in centre. We need to do one of them, though.
  9. I want to apologise to the A's for calling them the worst defensive team I'd ever seen. I didn't realise the Sox were about to have a hold my beer moment. When Grissom is back, its time we bite the bullet, move Rafaela to SS to pair with Grissom and hope O'Neil's body holds up in CF. This madness has to stop.
  10. Locking him up for that length of time at that dollar amount is going to turn into a steal for the Sox, I think. Very happy with that contract.
  11. Take 2 from the Angels and it's been a great start. Very early days, but there's clearly a good feel in the clubhouse ('vibes' I believe the kids call it) and the pitching...my oh my is the pitching good. Nice to be excited by the Sox for a change.
  12. Credibility? Wat? I don't remember anyone saying they wanted Rafaela to go down for 'seasoning'. People did say he might go down for control. Impressive amount of smarm in this post.
  13. Yeah, I like Casas but there's an almost certainty among some that he's going to be great. I'm not against us waiting. He's got much to prove.
  14. That was the worst defensive performance I've ever seen from a team. Bravo A's. f***ing impressive.
  15. Absolutely. It would be crazy not to.
  16. Lots of encouraging signs out of that opening series. Really should have left with a 3-1. Got to punish 2 poor teams now and make this a good West Coast trip.
  17. The site was a bin fire at the time, but that was a particular lowlight.
  18. I will assume sarcasm, but I haven't been by much in the last few weeks, so if this isn't glib, I am beyond impressed by your redemption arc. And by impressed, I mean a little worried.
  19. Yes, it's hard to understand why a woman wouldn't want to spend time on a board where men are/were arguing forcefully for Trevor Bauer to sign for their team. I remember chatting with Kimmi on messenger not too long before she left about the absurdity of posters laughing and patting themselves on the back for suggesting Alex Rodriguez should shut up a female analyst by putting his cock down her throat in a game thread. More women posters would be great, and I'd love to see Kimmi back. The conditions are certainly not being laid for anything of the sort.
  20. I miss Kimmi. Or am I Kimmi...
  21. It's great. Last night was the most I've enjoyed a game in a while. We're way short of where we would like to be, but they seem to really like each other as a group, so I'll take the hope (again) for now. I hope Martin and Jansen stay healthy so we can get good pieces for them at the deadline and further add to the young core.
  22. Fun game to watch last night. I think O'Neil is a clear step forward on Verdugo as long as he's able to stay on the field. But after seeing the veins pulsing in his neck in the after-game interview last night, nobody can tell me he hasn't had some, um, help building that physique!
  23. A topic and point that badly needed its own thread, too.
  24. That would be very surprising. I'm always on the side of the players getting more money over the owners, but I'm very glad Boras is getting a black eye over all this. He routinely holds the sport to ransom by keeping his players until the last moments so that panicking teams often overpay. It's a legit tactic but I don't think it's good for the game. The sport is losing relevance every year. They need to have a set period of free agency. It would create a buzz around the sport in the quiet winter months when players start tumbling off the board, and might force teams (ahem! The Sox) into some action, knowing they need to get their strategies in place early. The period after the lookout where there were multiple deals seemingly every hour was the most exciting time Baseball has had in a long time.
