  1. Bello has a live arm, there is reason for excitement. What has Winckowski showed that would get me excited?
  2. Can someone post his numbers as a starter vs. relief? I understand a starter pitches far more innings, but many of those innings are not high leverage innings. They often are in 5-1 games facing the bottom of the order. A closer by definition pitches the biggest inning, and he can be used almost every game in those situations. I can't think of too many teams that are playing in October that did not have an established closer. Nothing is more deflating to a team than blowing 9th inning leads. With that said I totally agree that putting your best pitcher to face the best part of the lineup in a close game, even if it's the 7th or 8th, is the play to make.
  3. Whoever called Duran a poor outfielder was obviously on point. I had not seen enough of him at the time to have an opinion. What we saw last night was embarrassing, his late jumps are now very apparent. And he has played the position for 5 years? Oh lordy, this is not looking good.
  4. What a bunch of little bitches we have here now. This team was 2 games from the World Series, and leading Game 4, not even a year ago. But reading the posts you would think they have been the Florida Marlins for years. This is not new. The Sox have had a number of last place finishes and always bounced back, winning multiple rings after last place finishes. Calm down children, it'll be alright.
  5. Houck scares me and he should scare you too. He is not an established closer and the other 2 have not been in that role enough for us to say they can close out a 1 run game with any certainty.
  6. Yeah I could not figure out if they were buyers or sellers. They gave away Vaz for 2 guys who will never be factors in Red Sox uniforms. But then he filled a huge hole at 1st base and retained the big names, then he did nothing to deal with the bullpen issues. They are making a run I guess with no closer and huge pitching issues.
  7. The other Yanks fan, Jackson something is a good poster who adds to the discussion. You are nothing more than an annoying troll who adds little.Be better.
  8. You didn't see JD Martinez as a franchise guy?
  9. I only saw that play once and tried to remove it from my memory. But wasn't the LF closer so that's why he didn't run?
  10. This is about the only thing I can put on Cora. His lineup has Duran, Cordero, Dalbec, JBJ, Sanchez and Downs. I defy you to find a manager throughout the history of the game who can win with that lineup.
  11. I have been optimistic all along, and I still think they can right the ship. We knew all year how dangerous it was to have 3 guys carrying the load offensively and we saw last night with 2 of them out they are fielding a minor league lineup. I mean they had no chance last night with that lineup full of holes. I will give it another week, after that I'm in sell mode too.
  12. I was looking forward to the reaction after that game. Last time I checked it still counts as one loss, no different than 4-3. Sure if FEELS different but let's not get carried away just yet.
  13. I have to tell you guys being a Red Sox fan in Maryland is fun. I was wearing my Sox shirt and a guy in a different Sox shirt said hey. This would not happen if I was wearing Ravens gear as you see that all the time. So when we see each other we almost always connect and it's a blast. And because there are so many of us around the country it happens to me all the time. As a fan of the Washington teams as well as Maryland sports the Red Sox are really the only team I have that I can be proud of and I wear my gear all the time.
  14. I agree with the announcers, last night was the sweetest win of the year. They needed this badly and as this fantastic game went on I thought how hard emotionally a loss would have been. But they won and Brasier delivered, who would have thunk it?
  15. Agreed. If they aren't going to pay their own stars monster contracts why would they sell the farm to sign a star to a monster contract? The answer is they won't.
  16. The "chance to win the AL East" left months ago, we were never going to catch the Yankees. What we have is a good not great Red Sox team playing a brutal part of the schedule. Calm down, they'll be in the playoff race all year and IMO will be in the post season. That roster will look different than the one we have seen in July, we can all count on that.
  17. But it's not like we didn't see it coming. We better hope the prospect we got pans out, that's all I got on this one.
  18. The offensive ranking appears to be a function of having a number of extremely high scoring games. But for the majority of the games it seems that they are struggling to score enough runs, this is not new. When the big guys make outs they lose and that is a huge handicap. Verdugo is hitting fine now, not sure why it was suggested that he be traded. When you field a lineup that goes Cordero, Plawecki, JBJ and Downs, and your best right handed PH is Bobby Dalbec and you are down in the 9th inning you have virtually no chance. They simply have to change that.
  19. Obviously the pen has been a huge problem. But when they get players back I can see a combination of Houk, Whitlock (a huge loss since he's been out) and Schreiber, with contributions from Sawamura and possibly Davis working. With that said it's awfully hard to make a run without an established closer. The starters have not been the problem, we saw yet another solid outing last night. The bigger issue for me is the bottom of the order. It was painful to watch those guys at bat with the game on the line last night, they had no chance. For all the comebacks they have had recently the season long issue of withering up and dying down 2 in the 9th continues. At least last night they made it interesting, most nights they just go away quietly and head for the clubhouse. The first move is to trade for a 1st baseman. They have given Dalbec plenty of time, maybe re-boot next season and see where he is. I gotta say it's a guy like this that scares me, he has the look of a guy who will figure it out for another team. But they just can't keep trotting him out as often as they have.
  20. Every time I see Brasier I die a little. Sale was throwing BB's, didn't expect that velocity on his fastball. So short term loss but perhaps a long term win last night.
  21. Or Boggy and possibly Devers. It make no sense to trade what it would take to obtain and then sign Soto. But I swear if they let Devers walk over money I will be royally pissed.
  22. I laughed last night as I saw Story hit the big double and getting interviewed on ESPN after the game as the hero, remembering my earlier post. But it remains true, he found himself up with the bases loaded and no outs. He has found himself up with runners in scoring position constantly throughout the season, he has had more chances to make a big impact than any player I can remember. His defense has been excellent, he is a great base runner. I want to love this guy, really I do. But damned he just needs to hit far more consistently for me before I get on board.
  23. I'm not optimistic about Sale's first start. Seems his fastball has lost a few feet and he had control issues in his rehab outings. I'm also growing tired of Story. His RBI totals are a function of hitting with runners in scoring position so often all season. And he has failed far far more often than he delivered, with the exception of his Joe Hardy week and a half that seems like a year ago.
  24. We all remember the lineups they trotted out this time last season. By the playoffs that lineup was completely different. I expect the same thing to happen this year, I don't expect to see this many holes by September.
  25. Remember a week or so ago when I posted that I wanted to see Strahm get more opportunities? Yeah me neither.
