    What a great move. Of all the long term deals for young players you have to like this one the best as he just has so much more upside. Sure it's a gamble but one worth the risk.

    As I have posted before I often tune in the opposing team broadcast because they talk baseball as the NESN spends an entire half of an inning interviewing someone from some charity. Last night was great, those woman acually talked baseball.

    Yeah I grew up in the DC burbs, now live an hour north. When I was young the Redskins stunk, as did the Senators. I got on the Red Sox because I was born in Boston and it was 1967. I didn't become a Redskins fan, it was the Colts at first, until George Allen arrived and instantly made them winners. For decades the streets around DC were barren during the game, they really took over the city until Snyder ruined it. Not getting into the name thing, been there done that. I call them the Commanders because that's their name.now, just as I call them the Wizards and not the Bullets. .

    Other Commanders fans here? I didn't expect that. 8 in a row, man this is some fun. But we are getting breaks. Bobby Witt should have made that play, the 2nd baseman should have let the RF take that pop up. But they are also putting the ball in play, pitching well and winning a lot of games on their own.

    Probably a first for me. But I love his aggressiveness and we get far more extra runs and bases than we surrender. I'm still getting used to having a fast team who likes to run even though it's been the case here for several years.

    I can certainly understand the frustration from Sox fans. I'm pissed at him as well. But let's clarify something, Devers is hardly a "slightly above average hitter". He is a top 10 hitter. If Reddit is to believed 66 of his 141 career errors were throwing errors which sounds about right. So we are talking about 75 ground ball errors in 9.5 seasons. I will pass on the scoring as that is subjective and hard to quantify. Still a lot no doubt but his bat makes up for those. Of course he won't be great at digging out poor throws but neither have any of our first basemen this season. How much slower to cover the bag do we expect him to be over the average 1st baseman who probably checks in at 280 pounds? Interesting that he didn't commit an error in that game and went 2-5 with an RBI and there is absolutely no reason to believe playing first base will result in injury. A salary dump is great if we can believe JH will reinvest these funds but that's probably not going to happen. Instead we got nothing in return so I'll never be on board with this trade.

    Bello hung a lot of pitchers in the heart of the plate but got away with it because the Royals suck. But really happy for him and his line again looked fantastic. Story is playing great, I would be happy to be wrong on him but let's wait and see. I love how they run the bases. I could never understood how a team with so many average or below average hitters throughout the lineup is putting up so many runs. Clearly the extra bases they get and pressure this puts on the defense plays a large role. I love their 3rd base coach and his aggressiveness.

    You guys appear to be more forgiving than I am when it comes to Trevor Story. Wildly inconsistent is a good description and that is not an asset. Look back to his first season here before he got hurt. For a month he was Hank Aaron. But it was only a month, the other 70 or so games he played that year he was a black hole and killed us. Now he is hot again, I'm taking a wait and see and will be happy to admit I was wrong if he continues to play well. But I fear I won't have to do that. I'm pretty convinced that it's only a matter of time before he goes in the tank for a long stretch and finishes the year with a below average OPS. .

    What are the excuses for the games he did play in? I"ve provided the numbers, are those "great" numbers in the games he was healthy and played?

    I hate cherry picked stats, I prefer to look at his entire body of work in a Red Sox uniform. When he has played his bat is not nearly what we were expecting and certainly has not been "great". That word can be only used for a few months this season and a hot month his first sewason here. Other than these select months he has been horrible offensively and this is his 5th season with the Sox. His OPS in Boston has been: .737, .566, ,734,, ,727 and this season he is at .822 but wildly inconsistant.

    Story has been very good at SS but they need more from his bat. At this point in time I have to believe this is who he is and it's not nearly enough,

    I was actually fine with the inactivity. I didn't want them to trade prospects for mid-season rentals in a season where they are not a realy WS contender. I also didn't want them to trade productive players in a season where they are in the playoff hunt. As someone mentioned here getting these young players playoff experience would be a good season.

    Blaming Cora or Narvaez is ridiculous. Our starter was better than their starter who is one of the top pitchers in baseball. They lost because once again they are simply not scoring enough runs. This is an ongoing problem that was masked by a winning streak mostly against bad teams but it will remain a problem all season.

    The Sox were losing a lot of 1 run games earlier in the season. When 1 player goes 0-28 with runners in scoring positon it's not unrealistic to think we could have won a few of those games. And then there is the defense which is impossible to quantify but in close games it made a difference.

    I had argued for Wong all offseason. I figured a catcher who hit .280 with good speed for a catcher worked for me. But then I was presented with the facts. Wong is not a good defensive catcher, he is actually terrible. I could live with that at .280, now he can't hit and remains a poor defensive catcher. He really may be the worst catcher in MLB and whenever he is in the lineup the Red Sox are at a disadvantage before the first pitch is thrown.

    I remain concerned about this lineup. But I'd also be thrilled to be wrong. I'm in serious wait and see mode but enjoying every moment of this hot streak. But on a side note watching the games is a frustrating experience. I freaking hate that thing they do with the lights after a walkoff at Fenway. It may look cool in person but it screws up the enjoyment of the moment for the tv viewers. As for NESN I sure miss Eck. I am also forced to mute the sound during the bottom of the 2nd as they spend that half of the inning interviewing someone about some charity. That has grown annoying. End of old guy rant.

    This is obviously why this is so exciting. The play of the young guys is so important. The extensions for Bello and Cedanne look pretty good right now. Just need Mayer to make better contact and get on base more, his defense passses the look test. But last night was as much fun as I've had in a while watching the Sox.

    Damn this team is fun to watch,. As a lifelong fan I'm not use to the Red Sox running the bases like this even though it's been going on for several years now. I love their aggressiveness, Rafaela scoring on the sharp single to right was so impressive. He got a great read and took off before it was clear to me the ball would drop. Seeing Mayer and Cedanne being the keys to that late rally was sure reassuring.

    I'm not but unsure of the solution. I prefer an actual first baseman who is productive offensively and defensively, consistant, and available. None of these players fit that description.

    Thoughts on Casas? I'm running out of patiences to be honest, which is unfair to such a young player. But to me if you are going to be that bad defensively you need to be a big bat and he is far too inconsistant. I don't feel like waiting until June every season for him to warm up. And now he has a pretty significant injury history but that can always change of course.

    I never said these games were meaningless, they all count the same in the standings. I said I'm not fooled by the recent run totals. . They are swinging hot bats against bad teams, they have also shown a pattern all year of having a few very high run total games which distorts the stats but far more gamea where they struggle to score. I expect them to revert to struggling to score runs.

    I said I was excited about their recent performances. I never once said this is who they are and will be going forward. Yet fans want to point to the Sox recent success and Dever's lack of success over a 2 week period as if this is somehow meaningful in the big picture.

    I prefer to look at the complete body of work and not the last few weeks when evaluating a player.

    I'm not getting fooled by a hot streak against terrible teams, Romy is having a career year but at some point he will revert to, well, Romy Gonzales. I'm much more excited about Bello and to a lesser extent Gio and their recent performances. And of course Anthony who continues to put the bat on the ball nearly every at bat. Slapping singles all over the field like Wade Boggs with more power has me pretty amped.
