Obviously the pen has been a huge problem. But when they get players back I can see a combination of Houk, Whitlock (a huge loss since he's been out) and Schreiber, with contributions from Sawamura and possibly Davis working. With that said it's awfully hard to make a run without an established closer. The starters have not been the problem, we saw yet another solid outing last night.
The bigger issue for me is the bottom of the order. It was painful to watch those guys at bat with the game on the line last night, they had no chance. For all the comebacks they have had recently the season long issue of withering up and dying down 2 in the 9th continues. At least last night they made it interesting, most nights they just go away quietly and head for the clubhouse.
The first move is to trade for a 1st baseman. They have given Dalbec plenty of time, maybe re-boot next season and see where he is. I gotta say it's a guy like this that scares me, he has the look of a guy who will figure it out for another team. But they just can't keep trotting him out as often as they have.
