  1. A poster points out in his/her signature, as you so here, that the Sox have 4 rings to the Yankees 1 since John Henry bought the team. To me that that made John Henry very likeable. Everything changed with the Mookie trade, that was the beginning of the change and something I will never get over. But for a long time JH was a great owner for us and very likeable.
  2. Yeah I'm in no hurry to trade our best player again, the only star this team has
  3. I came here honestly expecting more discussion about how one of the best pitchers in basebal is scared to death of our player. Instead I see a lot of discussion defending a career .225 hitter who was below the Mendoza Line 3 of his last 4 seasons. What happened with Cole was one of the highlights of a lost season. I really enjoyed that. Bello's outing was great to see, need to see more of this. I'm not ready to give up on Rafaela yet but predicting he will chase a slider a foot off the plate has become too easy.
  4. This is the easiest poll answer ever. The correct answer is the greatest hitter of all time, Ted Williams.
  5. Not sure where to post this so I'll ask it here. Are you happy with the NESN broadcast? Specifically the part where they spend the top of the 4th of every game on split screen as they interview a former player or the Director of the Jimmy Fuind as the game is going on? I have started watching the other team's broadcast, I can't stand watching and hearing that as a 2 run triple is taking place. Those other broadcasters are suprisingly complimentary of our team, nearly all of them.
  6. I don't see how. "Get this guy out of here", "Chris Frail can't be counted on " and "they should have never signed him to that extension" and then saying "we should have kept him" is what I've been reading and they are obviously completely conflicting opinions.
  7. I made this point a month or 2 ago and got pushback. I clearly recall nearly every poster wanted him gone years ago.
  8. This is how I feel and never understood the hate for Alex Cora, I'm glad he was extended. What he did with this team is remarkable, that was one of the worst lineups I have ever seen in May yet he had them around .500 for most of the season. Once the bats improved they are scoring a ton of runs.
  9. Regarding attendence I think we need to consider how angry the fanbase was and still is at John Henry and this is how they voice that displeasure
  10. I may actually be fine with Rafaela at SS for the next 8 seasons, Hell I may be fine with Connor Wong as my long term catcher. Which of course creates quite a dilemma with 2 of the big 3. Do we trade talented minor leagues with such upside for starting pitching? Boy that sounds dangerous and the ghost of Jeff Bagwell is screaming in my ear.
  11. Seems to have worked out the next day 'eh? What a pitching performance we got last night.
  12. I don't post often but I lurk a lot. Interesting to see the posts after reading years of posters complaining about Sale, the extension the Sox signed him to and all the rest. I don't recall anyone here promoting they keep and extend him regardless of the contract size.
  13. Those last 2 games were as enjoyable back to back regular season games I can remember in a while.
  14. The great thing about sports is you never really know what will happen. That 9th inning HR was as improbable as Kirk Gibson's to me. Smith and Yoshida coming through with 2 strikes and 2 outs in the 9th? None of us expected that. I still don't understand how the Yanks were so good early, this is the most out of balance lineup I can remember in a long time and you can't blame it on the injuries, Rizzo has sucked for a while.
  15. I was working and watched the game on delay. I had a good laugh as I watched that throw hours after making my comment. But 1 throw does not offset what I have seen all season. What a great game that was last night, one of the best of the season.
  16. Not sure where to put this question but has anyone noticed how bad outfield arms are today? I swear 95% of all throws to home plate are off line and never near the plate. We have scored so many runs on plays where an accurate throw would cut down the runner.
  17. I tend to agree, we have seen what a good job the coaches have done with a staff that we were all convinced was really going to suck. Bello is obviously just so frustrating and we saw it all in 6 innings last night. The first inning he was terrible and could have given up far more than 1 run. Then he was a totally different pitcher, the one we were kind of hoping for in April.
  18. Seeing Bello last night was a relief. We all know what he can be but will he? Rafaela continues to improve and I think that contract was a good gamble.
  19. You can't compare the timeline of college players vs high school players. Then there's the draft position to consider.
  20. So you go away from the guy who is 7th all time in saves and having a solid year for us after one bad outing? It obviously didn't work out but I have no problem with Cora's decision.
  21. That was a huge relief to see Kluber have a good outing, I'm skeptical it can be repeated. Sale's velocity seemed to be fine, his location was the problem as he is catching too much of the plate. I'm praying this is rust and can be corrected but I'm skeptical there too. My problem is the 2 young starters, Bello and Whit, were supposed to give an aging staff a boost and that certainly has not happened.
  22. I know right? He looks my age and he's considerably older. And it's not from good clean living, I wish him well. He sounded like a guy who was not ready to say goodbye to baseball. I'll never hear him call a J.D. Martinez again.
  23. Last night was emotional for me. Saying goodbye to JD, Xander and Eck on the same night was tough. I loved Eck.
  24. As bad as the current situation is the Red Sox have not had an extended run of bad teams in my lifetime. And I'm 63. The longest stretch of under .500 seasons was the 3 seasons from '92-'94 and one of those seasons they were 80-82. I have to keep the faith that they will right the ship but to be honest I'm not sure how they can return to the Red Sox with what they have on the roster and on the farm.
  25. Out on Kimbrell. He can't be counted on at this point. I'm also growing tired of all of our hot prospects arriving at the show and not doing dick. There, I said it.
