  1. How the heck does Shaw try to scrape several pitches nearly in the dirt off the ground, and then hold off a pitch 0.1 cm below the strike zone?
  2. Ortiz just became the first batter in history to get ball 4 and not do the silly thing where the batter pretends he knows its ball four by walking right down to first before call is made.
  3. Joe Kelly kind of had one trick: the quick curveball that looks like a fastball. Early on, it worked. But Kelly doesn't have much variation and when guys batted after getting used to it, they figured it out. I wish more pitchers tried to get 4-5 effective pitches worked into their game.
  4. Francona: Look at me, I'm so cool not even considering challenging that super close tag at 3rd.
  5. Ortiz on pace for a 162 HR season!
  6. Buchholz pitched like a depressed robot tonight. It's so easy to see his pitches for some reason. They all follow a predictable trajectory, the opposite of a pitcher that pulls the strings on the ball just enough.
  7. Infield shifted to the pull side for JBJ, then they threw him all pitches away, daring JBJ to hit one the other way to beat the shift. Does JBJ have trouble hitting the ball the other way?
  8. Internet cut out during the game so I couldn't keep commenting. The downside to Game 1 for people of these forums is that there was nothing to complain about! Everybody did everything right. Is it just me, or does this team feel more like a team than last year? Not just better, but the roster seems less random and like everyone fits. Hopefully Price's skill will inspire the questionable starters (everyone except him) to do well. Let's see how long Buchholz lasts.
  9. Great hit into the gap by Ortiz. It's moments like these that make me wish he would go Jaromir Jagr by trying to play forever and defy his age.
  10. Right after Price gets out of the jam, Betts bombs it!! FIrst runs of the year!
  11. For whatever reason, I get an adrenaline rush when I look at this Red Sox lineup, unlike last year. I think our bats are gonna be a force to be reckoned with, just a feeling.
  12. Wow Price's fastball looking strong and painting
  13. Missed a couple good pitches in the top of the 1st. I like the new play-by-play guy so far.
  14. Sup guys. Baseball is back! Let me just say, I can't believe that Price, one of the most hated players in Red Sox Nation, is actually on the Red Sox now... It looks like a photoshopped joke to see him in a Red Sox uniform. Can't believe we payed so much for him instead of getting perhaps two pitchers with that cash. He's gonna have to pitch well and with heart for me to accept him. We play the Jays a lot early on, so don't be surprised if we have trouble and have to make a comeback in May. It seems like a popular prediction that the Blue Jays will win the division, with the Red Sox coming in 2nd and possibly playing in their first wild card game ever. I think we'll be in close races the whole season, making it impossible to take our eyes off the Sox. The top-down power rankings in the AL East will likely reflect the north-south geographic locations of the teams. Power to the Frozen North! I should be one of the 10% that will actually get to see the extremely lamely timed 1:10 PM Opening Day game tomorrow. Toronto will probably already be 2-0 before we even play once, possibly setting the table for a season long race of pursuing them.
  15. Sup guys. Navafan29 here, though I may change my name to [something Else]fan29, as I refuse to have a member of the Tampa Bay Rays in my name. I think home teams are 2 and 6 in wild card games so far... I'm terrified of going to one of those gimmick games now. Lester Vs Lackey in the playoffs tomorrow! How often do you get to see stuff like this!?? Everyone has to watch. Would be funny if David Ross caught Lester. I believe there are 18 ex-Red Sox players participating in the playoffs this year. I will be rooting for the Cardinals thoughout the playoffs, as I always do when the Sox aren't in it. Yeah the Cardinals always get in the playoffs, but I'm not the type to hate a team just because they're always good. The Cardinals are always on top in the right fashion and for the right reasons, unlike the Yankees. St. Louis fans are the last city that likes baseball better than football, which is something I can really get behind; the fans deserve to have their team win the division every year, because they actually care a ton about baseball nonstop, unlike most fans of other teams who mainly watch football and only care about baseball when their team is in the World Series or when they attend a game. I love how smart the Cardinals organization is at keeping the team consistent, unlike other teams who can't stop sporadically going up and down. The Cards use a mix of farm system, giving fan favorites good contracts, and moneyball to keep consistently good.
  16. We better not waste Pedroia's healthy year. I'm usually a lot more optimistic, but the Sox don't deserve my viewing of their games right now. I'm not watching another Sox game this year until they get back to .500
  17. Masterson pitched smart but with no confidence. Btw Steve Lyons >> Every other MLB color commentator.
  18. What was that pitch that struck out Holt? A screwball???
  19. The bottom of the 9th was one of the most well pitched innings I've ever seen. Insane curveball. Yankees might have the best pitcher in baseball.
  20. I thought for sure he would have scored. When Hannigan's perfect hit happened, I was thinking "nothing can possibly go wrong with this!" It's almost as if the fan didn't understand the rule that it's still fair if it bounces into foul territory... or they weren't paying attention to the game because they don't care about baseball and only looked at the ball right as it was coming to them. They couldn't have been a very big baseball fan.
  21. Don't look at the standings unless you want a heart attack. Any first place team that falters will have 4 other teams jump on them like hounds.
  22. Wow. Just herding everyone into the park like they're cattle.
  23. Holy cow @ tieing it in the 9th. As far as whether the Sox deserved to tie it or not, it's not that they 100% deserved to tie it or 100% didn't deserve to. They deserved a chance at tieing it because they didn't strike out. And any time you successfully make contact, you deserve a chance.
