  1. I think the only way I can win my fantasy playoff matchup is if Ellsbury or Prado hits a HR tonight... Come on! Yankees game is on ESPN.
  2. W/e we lost games 4 and 5 to get eliminated. Anyways, here's what I remember from Game 4. In 3 at-bats, Rusney Castillo didn't get a hit but he did work a 3-2 count before accidentally hitting a check-swing grounder. He also hit a ball far that was almost a double. He didn't dive when he could have to make a catch in center field. Guess he didn't want to risk his $70 million body. Keury De La Cruz playing LF for Portland had 3 or 4 balls hit to him that he could have gotten if he charged at the ball a little. He kept letting stuff drop right in front of him and it was pretty annoying. Mike Augilera, Mike McCarthy, and Pete Ruiz all pitched poorly for Portland. Madison Younginer only allowed 1 hit through 3 innings though, so that's good I guess.
  3. Sea Dogs took a 2-1 Series lead over Binghamton! I will be at Game 4 tomorrow and hopefully see them move on to the final round.
  4. The Sea Dogs are having one of their best seasons ever apparently. Maybe I'll go to a playoff game. What ruins the AA Eastern League playoffs for me though is the horrible playoff format. The final round is a 2-3 format and which team has home field advantage is determined by whether it is an even or odd year! So at the beginning of this year, teams in the Eastern League Western division already knew they couldn't win a championship at home. Every team should have a chance at winning it at home for crying out loud. Either get rid of the 2-3 format or let teams' records determine home field advantage.
  5. How many times has a team sandwiched a WS championship between two last place seasons?
  6. baserunning play by Pedroia was the best. There's nothing lamer than a walk-off on a replay challenge. Seriously I hate watching the umps sit there with a goofy headset. Majorly interrupts the excitement.
  7. Get two established-talent free agent pitchers and make sure Webster isn't in the rotation. I think we can make the rotation look like: Some expensive pitcher Buccholz Some reasonably priced good pitcher Kelly Workman That's pretty great.
  8. There are a lot more negative people here than in the media. Out of all the TV personnel, baseball writers, and radio hosts I've heard from so far, none of them think Cherington did a bad job. Lester would have been gone anyways but instead of getting nothing for him, we got Cespedes. Talent-wise, Lackey for Kelly and Craig is a very fair trade. Yes, you're losing Lackey, but you're getting Kelly, who is only a slight downgrade, AND you're getting Allen freaking Craig. Instead of losing talent, we traded to preserve it. All we need to solidify offensively now is catcher and 3rd base. Now the offseason is easier because we mostly only have to get starting pitching. We have Uehara, Nava, Bradley, De La Rosa, Mujica, and a lot of minor leaguers as trade candidates to get starting pitching. Since we have a lot of good established major leaguers, and based on the amount of time we have them, I say we don't have time to fumble around with prospects for another year. We need at least two solid major league starting pitchers this offseason. If we fumble around with rookies, we're just going to come in 4th or 5th again. Good trade deadline. I give a B.
  9. That had to be one of the best trade deadlines ever. I was watching the MLB Network coverage from 11:30 AM to the 4 PM deadline. Billy Beane going for the WS with Lester was a shock. Then right when you think the A's are the best team in baseball and finally good enough to get past their nemesis Tigers in the playoffs, bam, the Tigers get Price. The ALCS this year between the A's and Tigers is going to be insane. The consistently good but always falling short Tigers vs the playoff choking A's. Billy Bean's legacy on the line. Both teams all-in. Torii Hunter's dream of playing in the WS on the line.
  10. Cespedes has more homers this year than our whole outfield combined. In 2011, 2012, and 2013, Craig hit .315, .307, then .315. Craig was part of the core of a WS championship team 3 years ago and he's great in pressure situations. Joe Kelly is a great pitcher. Our offense is almost set for next year. The problem is that a sharknado has gone through our starting rotation. We need to get more starting pitching and I don't trust our prospects. Can we trade Mujica and miller for a starting pitcher or something? If we do nothing and trust our prospects for next year, we'll just come in 4th or 5th in 2015.
  11. Imo this is a great deal. Kelly can start and relief pitch. Craig can be a fantastic hitter once he gets going. Surprised we didn't have to give up more for these two. If we play moneyball to get a starting rotation again (if that's even possible) we can win the division next year.
  12. What is with these rumors that Lester might get traded to the Orioles for another pitcher? That's crazy.
  13. Looks like Doubront is probably headed to the Cubs in a trade. The player the Red Sox are receiving is not announced yet.
  14. AJ on the Cardinals? So out of place. That's like if Jonny Pearraulta was on the Cards or something.
  15. Now that we have more prospects, trade for Gioncarlo Stanton, a couple guys maybe on Victorino's skill level, and another pitcher. Try to win the division next year.
  16. You spelled "Jon Lester" wrong. I'm sure you care about this a year after you posted this.
  17. Great Sea Dogs game today. Lavarnway hit an opposite field game-tieing home run in the 4th. Then Wilkerson had a 2-out hit that drove in 2 runs. Lavarnway was the DH and they were apparently playing him carefully because after he walked, they brought in Jonathon Roof to pinch run for him. Roof would later break a 3-3 tie in the 9th with a double off the monster to win the game. In the 8th there was a strange play. Binghamton was batting and Lawley was up. Men on 1st and 3rd with one out in a tie game, and the pitch is an uncaught 3rd strike that goes back to the backstop. Dilson Herrera runs from 3rd and tries to score but he's thrown out at the plate, then he flips out at the ump at the call (might have been a bad call, idk). Then the Binghamton manager flipped out and I'm surprised he didn't get ejected. This play ended the inning, but you're probably wondering: what happened to Lawley? The 3rd strike was never caught, yet this play produced two outs. I think what happened was Lawley got confused and just headed back to the dugout after striking out without getting thrown out or anything. So I guess he was out for going out of the baseline? An out-of-the baseline to play-at-the-plate double play? Gotta love the miners...
  18. I just traded Ryan Lavarnway, Mike Carp, and Jonathon Herrera for Giancarlo Stanton in MLB 14 The Show.
  19. Trade for Stanton if you're going to go all-in and try for another championship. Don't just be the Mariners and waste all your money on a Cano without getting anyone else and miss the playoffs. It doesn't matter much if you improve from a last place team to a 3rd place team.
  20. I knew the AL wouldn't lose with that monster lineup. I guess you could argue that Jeter could have won the all star MVP because his hits were clean whereas Trout's hits were almost right at fielders, but Trout was a good choice.
  21. 3 team trade: Royals give Mike Trout for Mike Trout Red Sox give Mike Trout and receive Mike Trout Braves receive Mike Trout in exchange for Mike Trout
  22. Wow could we actually get Craig? He's awesome from what I've seen from him in the playoffs the last few years. He's clutch too.
  23. That Brazil game.... that Brazil game... Almost ended 7-0. This makes the US team look really good. Think about it: Brazil loses to Germany 7-1 US only loses to Germany 1-0
  24. Wow nice comeback! Betts hit an infield double, Nava was the hero with the game tieing hit, and Holt walked it off.
  25. The Red Sox are bad.
