There are a lot more negative people here than in the media. Out of all the TV personnel, baseball writers, and radio hosts I've heard from so far, none of them think Cherington did a bad job. Lester would have been gone anyways but instead of getting nothing for him, we got Cespedes. Talent-wise, Lackey for Kelly and Craig is a very fair trade. Yes, you're losing Lackey, but you're getting Kelly, who is only a slight downgrade, AND you're getting Allen freaking Craig. Instead of losing talent, we traded to preserve it. All we need to solidify offensively now is catcher and 3rd base. Now the offseason is easier because we mostly only have to get starting pitching. We have Uehara, Nava, Bradley, De La Rosa, Mujica, and a lot of minor leaguers as trade candidates to get starting pitching. Since we have a lot of good established major leaguers, and based on the amount of time we have them, I say we don't have time to fumble around with prospects for another year. We need at least two solid major league starting pitchers this offseason. If we fumble around with rookies, we're just going to come in 4th or 5th again.
Good trade deadline. I give a B.
