  1. 4-39 to close out the season, i.e., Steven Drew numbers. But it doesn't look as if he'll be riding the bench for long if it's only for the rest of the season.
  2. True. But does that make up for his dismal performance at the plate? 3 Ks and a pop-up?
  3. Lucky Napoli was taking that first pitch--should have been four in a row.
  4. Well timed! Let's rat out the whole line-up!
  5. Home field advantage on the line? No hit.
  6. Why is Abad ever put in a game?
  7. As Bob Costas noted last year, that makes replay a farce: it was never intended to micro-analyze the way players finish their slides. That play has been "safe" for over a 100 years of baseball.
  8. The problem is that if one is a sexist or a racist pig (and this applies historically to a large percentage of execs in professional sports), then there ALWAYS seem to be better and more qualified (white) men available.
  9. Why PH for a .270 hitter with a .210 hitter? I don't get it. (As for Leon, the RS got only 6 hits; he got one of them: he isn't/wasn't the problem).
  10. Still no error on the LFer after three plays like that??
  11. Wow. That's is sports-fan logic at its best!
  12. Probably my favorite player on the RS. That's why it drives me crazy when he goes into prolonged slumps and seems to be making no adjustments (something for which I blame the coaches, since I don't like blaming him).
  13. Exactly. Why deny it? Also, batting 9th hasn't done much for him tonight (except perhaps reducing the number of Ks from 4 to 3). Chili Davis? Isn't correcting this in your job description?
  14. Is JBJ shooting for Napoli's K record of 187? I think he has a decent chance if he can keep hitting like this in Sept.
  15. And two for two on Ks tonight. RS coaches! Hello??? Anyone there? (Edit 1: spoke too soon. Make that 3 for 3).
  16. After zero Ks last night, he seems to have found his groove again: 2 for 2 tonight (so far).
  17. I don't know. If you take away the two cheap infield hits, and, well, the hit-batsman, the triple, the smash off the wall, the bad throw ... it really wasn't all that bad.
  18. Really? Wow. I never thought of that. Who knew?
  19. Well, you don't want your relievers walking guys.
  20. 2 Ks tonight, so far. 1 for 2 on Ks yesterday, 4 for 5 the night before. That's 7 in his last 9 AB. He needs serious help from coaches .... The RS do have coaches, don't they? (Edit: Make that 3 for 4 tonight, thus 8 for 10-- that's more or less my definition of "lost"). (Leon spared him from striking out with the bases loaded to end the game). (Edit: 2 for 3 tonight--so far, thus 10 for 13).
  21. 0 for the last three games. 2 hits for the last 7 games. 0-5 with 4 Ks last night. How is that not as bad as it looks?
  22. JBJ is definitely not fine. Multiple strikeouts and weak ground balls to the right side. A year or two ago, this is what got him sent down. Time for the 'legendary' RS hitting coach to do his job. (By the way, he's had three back-to-back 0-fers this month, and is hitting .182, w/ 4HR, and only 2 doubles. That is again, far from 'fine').
  23. Didn't see it, but this is how it was described on the radio. Why didn't Farrell or any of the coaches know the rule? (Or did the umpire rule that it was intentional?)
  24. Well, that strategy worked well.
