  1. The most tragic aspect of this game was Craig, whose every hit unfortunately guarantees him another week or so "look" by Farrell.
  2. Pointless move. Leave Nava in against a struggling left-hander. Going to Craig means a fresh RHP and the inevitable out.
  3. I guess the part that says a team ERA over 5.00 over 20 games is meaningless.
  4. Pitching has improved so much since Sunday. I really think FO's plan of getting rid of deadwood like Lester et al. is starting to pay off.
  5. Well, at least the pitching has improved over yesterday.
  6. Wow. Sure was a good idea last year unloading all those pitchers in order to get the big bats and trade bait like Cespedes and Craig.
  7. He appears to be the new Johnny Gomes.
  8. I love Koji too. But the problem in the few games I've seen so far is that too many of the sinkers are up, and when that happens, last night is the result. When he keeps it down, it seems both irresistible and unhittable, exactly as two years ago. I hate to see any athlete get old and ineffective, since it reminds me ... oh never mind.
  9. It's extraordinary how much vitriol we can expend over matters on which we basically agree!
  10. (Well, at least Victorino is back where he has the most experience--on the DL.)
  11. Sure it does. It proves he's hitting better than anyone else "right now," which is a lot more than nothing. That doesn't put Napoli on the bench, but it sure makes one wonder what Craig or Victorino are doing on the field.
  12. Well, he's hitting pretty well in Pawtucket, and he hit well this spring. Meanwhile, among those who are not hitting all that well: Betts, Craig, Victorino, Nava, catchers, even Ortiz. Since three of those are OF, there ought to be a place for him on the roster pretty soon. I'd like to see Craig and Victorino gone, since I'm not really interested in their apparently fading careers, but it's not my money, and thus it's easy to say that.
  13. Agreed. Not sure what 'overexposed' means. If it means 'tired', ok. But if it means something like 'the league figured him out', his hitting this year disproves that. I don't see what advanced statistics or imagined intangibles are required to suggest that you should keep the guy who's hitting better than all your other players on the field.
  14. I agree entirely. He has the highest BA of any Sox player now, and in 106 games, he had the highest BA of any sox player in 2014. But that of course is irrelevant.
  15. Yeah, that Brock Holt is just not ready for the majors. That .400 average and that 3 run homer just now--that's just bench player stuff.
  16. I'm not sure whether we should imagine that the RS are tied for first, or two games out of the cellar, but this is beginning to look a lot like two of the last three years.
  17. I don't understand. If he's great, then how can he be over-rated? As for his not being an everyday player, does consistently outhitting all his teammates when he is used everyday count? (or are there those 'intangibles' which prove one simply MUST play the overpaid Victorino's and Gomes's of the world).
  18. That was fantastic! Did anyone object that it wasn't a legal throw, or that the first baseman didn't 'establish control' simply by holding the glove?
  19. Well, they probably won't lose 130 games this year, but so far, the most promising performances are by Holt (a bench player, since he isn't being paid enough to start), Boggaerts, and by what's happening in Pawtucket. The FO theory that all will be well as long as everyone has a career year may have worked miraculously in 2013, but the strategy of ridding the team of all its strength (pitching) in order to make room for routine hitting is a bit too Zen for my taste.
  20. Hey, good thing we got rid of that washed-up bum Gonzales, no?
  21. Not as many as we're going to lose by having veterans like Victorino and Craig in the batter's box.
  22. Both RC and JBJ are hitting well in 3A. I'm pretty sure, even if you don't want to play Nava (I guess you're not paying him enough?), that they could hit .130 in the majors.
  23. So we have a right-handed pitcher. And therefore, we use a right-handed .130 hitter instead of the .330 hitting lefty? Hell, why not put Craig in for Betts, or DH instead of Ortiz.
  24. Although many of the proposed trades have been no less absurd, I think, in my heart of hearts, that SoxHop was being ironic.
  25. Right. And RS have their $80million Crawford-esque ace up today, no?
