I agree with you. A 4.5 era, considering AL average starting pitching era this year is 4.04 as of today,puts him absolutelty no better than a number 4. He is ranked 94th out of 128 starting pitchers with at least 60 innings pitched. Sure number 4's can have months where they pitch like 3's or 2's, but they just don't do it consistently. You can't just discount games where he single handed put the red sox out of it really early with no hope of coming back.
