Another person who has done squat with runners on base and in scoring position is mike napoli. When runners aren't on, he is hitting 302. When runners are in scoring position or at first, he is hitting sub .190. Last year he was around .250 in that department so slightly worse than his overall average. Although ba with risp can change drastically from year to year, a good gauge of how productive a hitter has been (especially a middle of the order guy like napoli) is the damage he has done with runners on base. Napoli has done very little, which is why he has only 50 rbis. Ortiz has been the exact opposite. When no one is on, he has been hitting .225 with 15 hrs. With runners on,he is hitting .310 with 15 hrs (some serious damage). Nap has shown this season that he can hit when it doesn't matter but is futile when the opportunities for him to knock some runs in come around. He needs to change his approach with runners on because obviously what ever he is trying this season isn't working( which is trying to hit a damn 8 run hr every time some one is on base).
