  1. I wouldn't go near Peavy. According to Baseball Reference, the two pitchers he's most similar to are Dan Haren and Josh Beckett.
  2. At this point, I don't really care if the Yankees win or lose because I don't really consider them a threat to us and every game they lose could potentially improve their draft position next year. By the way, I did check Kuroda's contract and he does have a full no-trade clause. It seems unlikely the Yankees will be able to trade him, he's blocked trades two out of the last three years and gave reasons such as loyalty to the team and how he didn't think it was meaningful to win a pennant when you're only on the team for two months.
  3. http://www.usatoday.com/story/sports/mlb/2013/07/23/alex-rodriguez-biogenesis-mlb-negotiations-suspension/2579977/?sf15305150=1 See, I knew you could count on A-Rod to be greedy and unapologetic. I wouldn't be adding up those saving just yet Yankees fans.
  4. The last and only time he gave up more than 2 ER in an appearance this year was May. That's the kind of consistency we could use in our bullpen.
  5. Yeah, the Yankees situation for next year isn't pretty. They currently have five players under contract for an $80+ million hit to their luxury tax salary, and most of them aren't productive any more (A-Rod, Vernon Wells, Mark Teixeira, Ichiro). The one that is, Sabathia, is in decline and has been below league average this year. They have 9 players headed to arbitration but most of them are replacement level players (Nix, Lillibridge, Nunez, Cervelli, Stewart). They don't have a particularly strong class of upper level prospects and it isn't a very good free agent class outside of players they'll be losing and have to re-sign just to continue being the roughly .500 team they currently are.
  6. I also find it fascinating that he now believes the Yankees could reasonably be able to plan their offseason around A-Rod being suspended for life, considering he has said multiple times that this appeals process will drag on in to next year and it's no guarantee anyone will be suspended. I guess that narrative isn't convenient this second.
  7. I would love to hear more about what free agents will cost less than $27 million and make the Yankees competitive. Could you expand on that part?
  8. Please, do tell us more. This is fascinating.
  9. Thank you. You just made my night.
  10. This. And even more, he has built in rationalizations for all of his terrible predictions. It's always "that was when the Yankees had backbone" or "but no one could have predicted John Lackey". He sees the world through a truly fascinating lense.
  11. Of course you don't think the Red Sox will win the division. I think a little more is going right for the Red Sox than John Lackey. Don't you remember claiming the Red Sox offense was overperforming?
  12. But I thought the Red Sox were the team playing over their heads.
  13. Ah, yes. If the Yankees only had backbone.
  14. Isn't this the same "chokerod" you were excited to have back so the Yankees could inevitably chase down the Red Sox?
  15. I said at the time we made the trade that I didn't want to trade him. I thought we should have acquired him from the Astros before Cherington actually did. I love his track record going back to the minors and his contract and I thought the cutter he developed in the second half of 2011 had the potential to make him dominant.
  16. I wasn't insinuating that anyone else didn't care about the game. I also think a large portion of players are using drugs, I would prefer that they weren't though. And I think that the players who are caught should be punished to the fullest extent of the rules.
  17. Thornton just came in for one hitter, and faced a righty who hits lefties much better than righties. Very strange.
  18. I care about the game far more than I care about the Yankees losing. I would rather A-Rod be banned for life than he sit on the Yankees payroll.
  19. It would be irrational if you didn't.
  20. I said it before and I'll say it again - I wish we still had Mark Melancon.
  21. We're reportedly interested in Luke Hochevar. I wonder if the Jays would trade Brett Cecil, he's another guy who's really blossomed in relief.
  22. Of Lester's 6 punchouts, 4 on fastballs, 2 on curves. Really seems to have moved away from the cutter as his go-to two-strike offering. — Alex Speier (@alexspeier) July 24, 2013 Encouraging.
  23. Yeah, he was ranked as their 4th best prospect by Baseball America.
  24. Orioles traded their 4th best prospect for K-Rod. That would be the equivalent of us trading Cecchini, Webster or De La Rosa. Not worth it.
