  1. Personally, I'm not a fan of Meadows, there have been questions about his defense lately. It would be worth spending less on the rest of the draft to get Appel, he's the best pitcher in the draft. Most draft picks don't even make the majors, let alone reach their potential so a player that makes the major leagues and is league average is a success. Appel's a 22 year old pitcher with three potential plus pitches, he has plenty of potential to become a top of the rotation guy. Don't think he'll fall to the Red Sox, but if he does they'd have to take him.
  2. So you're expecting the Yankees to get better because Andy Pettitte (3.83 ERA) will be replacing Vidal Nuno (2.25 ERA) in the rotation? You're really grasping at straws here bud. The Yankees are fortunate to have the record they have. Entering play yesterday, they were second to last in the division in run differential, they weren't going to win every one run game they played all year. How well do you think they'll do against the Red Sox? Think they'll take two of three? Think they'll sweep?
  3. Yet, you acted as if the Red Sox were the smoke and mirrors team. You were dead wrong and your backtracking is delicious. The point I used statistics to demonstrate was that the Red Sox would probably be back in first place not only because their offense was better, but they were also outpitching the Yankees and playing better defense. I don't see how Teixeira and Youkilis will change any of that. Teixeira and Youkilis aren't increasing the team wOBA by .030 points. Teixeira and Overbay are both very good defensively, Youkilis is much worse than Adams. Are you expecting Teixeira or Youkilis to pitch?
  4. Iglesias is hitting .419/.447/.535, Daniel Nava is hitting .289/.398/.472, Mike Carp is hitting .270/.313/.587. Do you know how many teams would kill for that kind of production from their roleplayer/bench guys?

  6. Right, I mean when Middlebrooks returns and we decide between keeping Iglesias or Ciriaco.
  7. Iglesias CAN NOT be sent down. He's an excellent fielder, an excellent baserunner and he's actually hitting. When Middlebrooks returns, and Iglesias cools off, have him start against lefthanders. He's hit them to the tune of .333/.360/.458 entering tonight and Drew struggles against lefthanders. David Ortiz is a tremendous influence on him. His acting out ******** in the minors didn't happen when Ortiz was down there. He'll learn just as much in the majors working with video and major league hitting coaches and hitters.
  8. He was nice enough to stop in and say he's still moving and most of us probably didn't have jobs.
  9. I guess Jackass picked the wrong team that was peaking.
  10. Pretty sure Podsednik was also involved, and then was back with the Red Sox two weeks later.
  11. Great sign from Jonny Gomes, glad we didn't burn an extra outfielder on the double switch this time. Still pissed at Iglesias for getting thrown out ahead of the pinch hitter.
  12. Keith Law just updated his mock. He has Moran going #1 and the Red Sox selecting Austin Meadows. Although, he suggests that Appel could fall to the Red Sox due to signability issues. Obviously one of the less conventional mocks, but this kind of stuff can and does happen on draft day. If the Sox could get a high upside arm like Appel or Stewart, it would be a major coup.
  13. These new age Yankees fans can't take a good ribbing.
  14. There's always next year. Glad both series went seven, disappointed the tougher teams advanced. I can only hope the Kings/Blackhaws go seven as well and whoever wins limps in to he final.
  15. If Ortiz had pinch hit in the 7th inning like I wanted him to, Bradley would have been available off the bench as a pinch runner because we wouldn't have used an extra outfielder for a double switch and the pitcher wouldn't be batting 6th.
  16. Would have been nice to have had Ortiz bat earlier, when we had a man in scoring position and we weren't facing Papelbon, and it would have been nice to have Bradley available off the bench to run for Gomes.
  17. Ellsbury leads the team in "clutch".
  18. Good thing we saved Ortiz so he could face Papelbon...

  20. Still have to get a runner on second base to get an opportunity like we had last inning.
  21. You think Papelbon's going to allow a guy to get to second base so Ortiz can get another opportunity like that?
  22. Gomes against lefties this year - .151/.318/.321. This isn't rocket science.
  23. Chances are, a guy one second base with one out is going to be the best pinch hitting opportunity he's going to get tonight. Doesn't matter now though, Gomes got hit by the pitch.
  24. Yeah, I disagree with this call. Ortiz should be hitting.
