  1. Thomas is going to walk in a run.....
  2. Hey-one win in a row isn't bad, right?
  3. You are welcome. There is more there too. Go to ESPN.COM and scroll down to the MLB link and choose STATS.
  4. Its going to be Salty and Shoppach this year. I think Lavarnway will eventually deserve a shot in the majors though. His offensive upside is probably much higher than Salty's, and his defense is improving. The Red Sox will need to decide who to choose because both Salty and Lavarnway are going to be major league caliber starting catchers, probably by next year. Its a good position to be in, having to choose between two decent catchers.
  5. Well, the truth is that the Royals had a catcher last year (didn't check to see if he is still a Royal) who finished fifth in OPS for the year, Salty being twelfth. There certainly are catchers who are better than Salty, but that doesn't make him the worst ever. Check out the ESPN stat sheet here: http://espn.go.com/mlb/stats/batting/_/year/2011/position/c/league/al/sort/OPS/qualified/false Its a great site to look up all kinds of things. You may already be familiar with it.
  6. In terms of FP he ranked at #30 of 40 last year, but its really not much different than the top 10 in terms of errors. His WAR, if you like those stats, is 0.7, about average. I don't have access here to his defensive rating or % of base stealers thrown out (my guess is that its about average). Worse ever? Not close to that. But we could do better, and we will do better, when Lavarnway is promoted.
  7. He isn't leaving anything over the plate. All of his pitches seem to be on the corners. Thats what I saw anyway.
  8. Salty has gotten off to a slow start. I am not his biggest fan. I would like a guy like Avila who beat us a couple of games ago. Salty finished at 12th in OPS among all catchers last year. Interestingly, Lavarnway finished 11th. Salty certainly isn't "the worst catcher of all time" by any means, but Lavarnway needs to be promoted very soon. With some time in the ML he could really blossom into a top tier catcher offensively and probably adequate defensively.
  9. Hard to deny these facts. Beckett has been grossly inconsistent during his stay here. As you have shown, every other year he is not good at all. This is the even year and if history is to repeat itself as it so often does, he will be above his average ERA with the Sox of about 4.03. Also, I remember watching him a few years ago in the playoffs against the Rays when his velocity was upper 80s to 90. He also denied being hurt then, as he is denying it now. I am willing to give him another start or two before I say that he is lying for sure about being hurt. Its all very suspicious right now.
  10. HAHAHAHA I was planning on selling that video. I made it yesterday and already its been pilfered from Youtube for everyone else to use.
  11. Melancon may end up being a passable RP. Thats possible. As for Albers and Bowden, neither has EVER shown any tendency to be consistently good. Thats just a fact. Go ahead and make whatever corrections you like. Both pitchers are really not very good no matter how you measure them.
  12. Did you expect Bobby V to just say "Hey, our bullpen is pretty mediocre and lacks the talent to contain good offenses"? Really? I say good for him. He may indeed need to manage the pen better, but that doesn't raise the talent level out there. Its pretty well accepted that our bullpen as currently constituted is missing some key parts.
  13. Yeszir: please check your pm's. I sent you one that I would appreciate a response to. Thanks. And yes, winning makes all the difference. Sox fans are emotional about their team, especially the die hards on Sox boards. I don't think there is anything wrong with that.
  14. Funny what winning will do eh? As I said, this team is showing WAY more fight than they did at the end of last year. They came back in two of the games in Detroit and then in this win tonite. Last year once we got behind in September it seemed we could never come back and win.
  15. Game over. As Jackie Gleason said: "How sweet it is"
  16. Thats two. This is our night friends.....
  17. He was at 95 in his last outing too.
  18. Dude: if I can think good thoughts about this game so can you. Only GOOD karma tonite.
  19. Not even gameday?
  20. He is going to get the job done tonite. Payback time. This lineup is not the Tigers.
