    Prediction: Red Sox 7, Orioles 3 Buchholz has been pitching well of late, and our offense is due for some runs. Matusz isn't that good. More importantly, I think the players are going to start to feel a sense of urgency to start winning again. BTW: GO CELTICS!

    Wrong. I am pessimistic because our pitching stinks, mostly. I could live with Gonzalez and Youkilis being bums if we had good pitching. We don't. We rank 13th in the AL in overall ERA. Think thats good enough to make the playoffs, even when Bailey comes back? Think about it. Show me a team whose pitching was next to last in their division in the last 10 years that made the postseason.

    Its delusional to look at our current situation (last place for most of the season, pitching ranking 13th in the AL, and highly paid bums laughing all the way to the bank instead of contributing) and thinking that we are a playoff caliber team. There is ZERO evidence for that, ZERO. Its wishful thinking, but wishing it were true does not make it so. I admit that the situation could change, and if it does, I will become more optimistic about our chances, but right now, face it: WE STINK!

    Exactly. This is the best we have right now. Thats why no one should have irrational exuberance about their chances.

    Golden turd awards for tonite are awarded to Aviles (0 for 3), Pedroia the Mouth (0 for 4), Ortiz (0 for 3), and Byrd. Dishonorable mention to Youkilis and Gonzales for failing to produce too.

    Its not that we are 3 or 4 games out that is the concern. Its that we have too many holes on this team to change the current situation. If we had great pitching and were just 4 games out, thats something we can expect to eventually shine through. We don't. Our pitching stinks and the guys that are being paid lots of money to produce, aren't.

    Not true. I can dig up the statistics of every player as well as the relative position of our pitching to the rest of the AL. That should prove exactly how good they are right now. There is little evidence that they can turn the corner, in fact, none.

    But thats just it: the reason we are failing this year is BECAUSE of stiffs like Gonzalez, Youkilis, Byrd, McDime etc etc along with the fact that our overall pitching ranks 13th in the AL. Therefore, we remain in last place. If we had a good team and were just a couple of games out of the playoffs that would be a different story. We don't.

    Mediocre teams behave like this. They have some hot streaks, followed ineviably by losing streaks. They have lots of difficulty beating teams that are better than they are. Their pitching is typically poor and their offense streaky. We have a very mediocre team this year.
