  1. What? The Orioles got Strasburg?
  2. I live out here near the SF Giants and Oakland A's, and I NEVER hear of one of their players whining about being sent down or benched. They just take it and keep their mouths shut. There is something about being a member of Red Sox that seems to make a player feel like he is owed something by the management and the fans. Thats counterproductive if you want to win baseball games because it fosters a MEFIRST attitude that the other players are bound to dislike as many of them are also MEFIRSTS. It breeds resentment and individuality where teamwork is necessary to win. I suppose its possible to win with this kind of a prevalent attitude, but its a lot tougher and a lot less pleasing for the fans to watch.
  3. OK. Got it. Sorry. About Bard's big mouth: I believe that its unprofessional to publicly complain about decisions made in good faith by your superiors in this situation. I look at the New England Patriots as an example of a very professional organization. When did you ever hear a player complaining about a decision that Belichick made that he felt was good for the team although not good for the individual player? Its a tight ship there, and it should be a tight ship here too. Focus on playing your best, on the team, and on realizing that you are not in charge; thats the advice I would give to Mighty Mouth and Bard right now.
  4. This is exactly the kind of attitude that destroyed last year's team as well as teams in the past. 25 players; 25 cabs. I despise that kind of MEFIRST attitude. This is a team sport and no player's needs come first. Each player is accountable to his bosses, the manager and the GM (and others), just like a "normal" job. There is a chain of command. Bard obviously feels that he is entitled to a ML roster spot. Even if he is disapointed, he should be disappointed privately. His comments did not help his public persona, did they.
  5. All I am saying is that right now the Orioles are a superior team, based on their record. Your team is exactly as good as your record says you are. Who knows if the Orioles will fail this year? They might; they might not. They said that about the Rays the first year they became competitive; and the next year; and the year after that.
  6. Yeah. Lackey. I might think of others. And I never said that all knowledgeable fans agree with me. It is true that some knowledgeable fan agree with what I have posted; some do not. However, if you do not feel particularly knowledgeable about this, thats fine with me too.
  7. Unfortunately, I think that Bard's career is in serious jeopardy as a result of management's efforts to please his desire to become a SP and from the infection with the entitlement attitude that is apparently still present in the clubhouse. We all knew it would take Valentine some time to disinfect our clubhouse. Removing Bard, a cancer, is a good start to trying to resurrect what is left of his career. He will never be a starter. And the chances for him to be successful again as a setup man are highly dependent on a serious change in attitude.
  8. Crawford is going to start if he is healthy, whether anyone likes it or not. He is paid way too much money to sit. Its not going to happen. I think he will be fine this year, eventually.
  9. In 60 games prior to the 27 he has played this year, Nava's career OPS is .711. He is hot right now, which is great, fun to watch. It won't last. And Crawford will contribute. He had a bad year. It will take him some time to get back into it, but if he is healthy again, he is too good not to contribute. Look at his career stats (career OPS of .773 plus speed). He is better than Nava.
  10. Nava is just not that good. He will slowly come back to earth. I agree with Manny that its time to package him while his value is high in a deal to get a high quality SP.
  11. He has the right to be disappointed and angry AT HIMSELF FOR SCREWING IT UP; he has no right to be disappointed at management's decision to demote him unless he thinks he did just fine out there. Then I would probably start him on Lithium. And however he feels, he should keep his mouth SHUT. No one wants to hear Daniel Bard whining about how badly he was treated.
  12. No, we lost to a superior team. Check the standings.
  13. From Daniel Bard: “It’s not my decision. I’m just an employee here. Obviously, I’m not thrilled with it. If it was me making the decision it might have been different. But I tried to be respectful about it," he said. “Once I get the anger and disappointment out of the way you just have to try to make the best out of the situation.” Bard and Mighty Mouth make quite a pair. It would have been better if he had accepted the fact that he needs to work on things in order to SAVE HIS CAREER, and it would have been much better if he had said nothing and owned his s***** performance to date as a SP. Here is what he should have said: "I realize that my performance this year has been less than everyone expected. I take full responsibility for that and will do whatever the management feels is best for me to do in order to once again become a dominant pitcher in whatever role they feel is best for the team" I really don't want to hear much more of what Daniel Bard thinks.
  14. Prediction: Red Sox 7, Orioles 3 Buchholz has been pitching well of late, and our offense is due for some runs. Matusz isn't that good. More importantly, I think the players are going to start to feel a sense of urgency to start winning again. From page 1. Got our run total correct. Glad I missed on the O's runs.
  15. Its too late to work on that pitch for this season. But you are right: a changeup would make Lester much more effective. Everything he throws is at least 90mph
  16. I like both of them. And they work very well together.
  17. I would take him out now, after the walk. No need to push this.
  18. The "Ask Jerry" question of the night: "Who would you want to play you in a biopic of your life" Remy: "Johnny Depp"
  19. Yup. Nice job, but no need to blow his arm off.
  20. His mother must be proud of him. What is Gonzalez doing with his finger in Bettemint's back pocket?
