    Unfortunately, Pedroia is toast. We should not be counting on him for anything in the future. IMO he should retire to save his knee the additional wear and tear it will be exposed to trying to play baseball.

    Johnson will be in the rotation soon; Pom has nothing. Jury is still out on Thornburg...he might still be able to contribute. And we need one more reliable setup guy and we are set for October

    Seriously? You haven't seen enough? Pomeranz has sucked all year long and has lost velocity on his already underwhelming fastball. Johnson is at 3.45/129-as our #5 SP. I believe that roster spots should be assigned by merit alone. As I wrote elsewhere, Johnson has earned a spot in the rotation. Pomeranz has earned a demotion.     By all accounts Judge is a quality guy. I want to beat the ever loving snot out of the Yankees, but not this way. Judge and Sanchez are both out for a while now.....no Sox fan has any right to complain about our injuries any more.

    You can criticize individual decisions without "crucifying" the manager. I think Cora has made two mistakes recently: leaving Pomeranz in the Baltimore game a batter or two too long and not pinch hitting for Bradley with Moreland, who, I read, is 6 for 10 lifetime against Rodney. But overall he has done a very nice job, as the record indicates.

    Cora made a mistake tonight by allowing Bradley to hit with the bases loaded and two out in the ninth down a run. Moreland was available to pinch hit. The result was predictable. K.

    They do need one more reliable setup guy, but saying they are a problem is factually inaccurate. They are third in the league in ERA.

    Meh....they need someone better than another pitcher with an ERA over 4 and an ERA+ of 101. Pretty average, though he would be in improvement over the likes of German and Gray, probably on the level of Tanaka. They get DeGrom and I would be concerned; not Happ.

But I agree with you: the financial incentive for young men to throw the ball in a manner that predisposes them to surgery before they are fully developed physically is a tough problem. I don't think you can tell them not to do it; that would be up to their parents.     He had TJ surgery after he was out of HS. But the injury that caused him to need it occurred in HS. It wasn't elective surgery if he wanted to continue to play ball. He got two opinions and both doctors recommended the procedure.     Johnson has earned a spot in the rotation; Pomeranz has not. Its as simple as that. I think its a dumb decision to award Pomeranz that spot. Put him in the pen and see if he can win back what he lost.

    I am not sure how the brackets would work...but the way things are now the Sox have the best record; Yankees #2 (and I am assuming the can beat Seattle); Astros #3; Cleveland #4. Would we not draw Cleveland and the Yankees would get the Astros in the first series?

    Got it. Still, the Yankees would draw the Astros I think.....if things are unchanged and the Yankees beat Seattle.
